Bottomed out at 41.9* last night and haven't risen much since. Drizzling rain.

26* record freeze predicted for monday. Will have to protect pineapple plants, and other tropicals.

Snow line just north of Orlando and fading with daytime.

Sandy, Unknown Precipitation (UP) is recorded at non-augmented (no human present) ASOS sites when the sensor cannot determine snow versus rain, meaning the particle sizes are such that sleet or graupel (snow pellets) is occurring (mixing in with rain or snow).

12Z NAM shows the freezing line at 850MB clearing S FL and even the keys. Very impressive. Of course the FL Keys will not freeze.

Also got Unknown precip in Vero Beach, 37 there with a WC of 28.

based upon these reports, looks like we got some scattered frozen precip on a line from Punta Gorda to Vero Beach

This cold is changing my concept of the minimum high temperature here. 42* at 2pm. Steady light rain all day.

Grand Cayman 73*.

Highs reached the upper 30s here in Saint Petersburg, about 38*F but it is now
falling.
So with a high of 38*F and skies expected to clear, the 20s look
pretty likely.

take a picture folks, probably going to be a long time before you see something like this again -

Stuart:

Tonight: A chance of rain and sleet before 9pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 31. Wind chill values as low as 23. Northwest wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

this is the first time since i've lived in florida that daily highs have remained in the 30's. we better hope for periodic el nino induced rains or else the whole state is going to turn into a freeze dried tinder box.

Yea, it never made it above 42 here either, and remained in the 30's most of the day. I LOVE this weather though, and would take it any day. 39 degrees right now with a wind chill that has to be in the 20's. This might be that night that happens once a year when we go down to about 28 degrees.

Statement as of 4:37 PM EST on January 9, 2010

... Wintry precipitation is seen over much of east central Florida...

Ingredients came together to produce a very rare and wide ranging
occurrence of sleet... ice pellets and in a few cases snow flurries
today in east central Florida. Numerous reports of sleet were
received by the NWS office in Melbourne along and north of a line
from Poinciana in Osceola County to Palm Bay in southern Brevard
County.

A few locations over lake... Volusia... Seminole... Orange... and North
Brevard counties reported light accumulations of sleet on vehicles
or roof tops. There were no known accumulations of wintry
precipitation on grassy surfaces or the ground.

This event is comparable in areal coverage to a sleet and snow event
that occurred in central Florida on January 19 1977.

Those winds are leading to a rare chilly morning in Key West. At 7am the air temperature was 47F with a windchill of only 40F.
