Texas winter wx thread (2009-2010)

Twisted my ankle pretty good in the snow. Uggg!! So far we have over 8 inches!! Never would have believed it!!

Ok now that we're done with this system. Many of the pro mets in this forum and srain have mentioned that true cross polar flow will be setting up next week. This is very far out (but lets remember the GFS saw this system last week at around the same time frame). We may just be doing something like this all over again and then the really cold air settles in. (Several other guidance brings in the colder air also)

I hope this will be the system that gives the Austin\SA area along with S\E Texas some snow should it come to fruition.

Yowza! For Portastorm and all of you S. Texas snow lovers, hope this potential storm puts you in the cross-hairs. (Except for you, of course, Wxman57 - I'm wishing sunshine and warm bike riding weather at your house!

hummmm....now that ive been outside......the clean up is gonna be a PIA....i have tree branches down everywhere....and im getting really worried about a huge branch over my driveway...over two cars that we dont drive right now....cant move them cause the batteries are dead.....

Looks like another moderate to heavy band is filling in Tarrant and Dallas counties. Could pick up another quick 1-2 inches since it doesn't look like it's moving much east, spinning on the spot lol.

Most of it will melt over this weekend. Majority on Saturday. If in shaded areas might last longer.

Edit: Big flakes is falling around the airport area in my location.

Sure would like to see a snowfall update from DFW Airport.

They didn't update the Public Info Statement at 10 p.m. (not that they are busy or anything! ) but with snow continuing there for two solid hours since the last update, they've got to be closing in on 11"...or more...one would think.

Did you ever think you would be asking for snow to stop falling?

I saw a chruch billboard today from somewhere in the NE. It said "Who ever is praying for snow, please stop" or something along those lines. LOL!!!

honestly no....i figured 6 inches or so here, know the tree can handle that...but UHHHH not the 9.75 i just measured!!!!!! ROFL....i have never seen this much snow in my life....

To be honest, given the solid radar presentations right now and where I'm unofficially guessing that DFW is right now (somewhere over 11" for the day is what I'm thinking - they were at 9.4" at 9:15 p.m. and it hasn't stopped or slowed up much since then) I'm betting that the final 24-hour snowfal total for the airport will be over 13".

If so, that would be so utterly remarkable that OKC and DFW would set 24-hour snowfall records in the teens...in the same winter.

And what would be almost ludicrous would be if DFW somehow manages to get past OKC's recently minted 14.1" 24-hour snowfall record...in the same winter, in different storms!!!

Looking at the latest FW NWS radar shot, looks like we're getting a little bit heavier band of snow building again up here in Sherman/Denison.

With the latest bands, DFW Airport could approach a foot. Lets see if it follows through for the midnight updates (if they do). Looks like from north Ft Worth through the mid-cities to DFW airport is getting moderate\heavy snow.

It has been amazing how the radar keeps filling in with moderate/heavy snow bands.

And it's not moving, it's sitting there dumping 1-2 inches\hr on the same spots.

This storm likes DFW. Left everywhere else except the pocket around the metro LOL.

Starting to see some moderate to heavy snow redevelop in central and northern Grayson County. Looks to be just south of where I live. Still light snow here as of last check.
