I didn't realize how little of snow we got till I saw more pictures around North Texas coming in. I think more snow stuck overnight with the flurries than it did earlier in the day.

It was all gone last night and in the morning the roofs were white again. It looked prettier in the morning.

Driving around mesquite tonight for work, most of the snow has melted but the temperature has dropped below freezing again at least at the nearest reporting station via the weather channel app. (I like the Weatherbug app better but it freezes up my phone....sure would be nice to have real time temperature information tonight, does anyone have any suggestions?) I'm not too thrilled about the drizzle that's been falling for the past hour. I've been driving for six years and have never had an accident, I don't want that streak to end tonight! I'll be checking in throughout the night, hopefully this drizzle will end soon but I think it's too late for the bridges.

While the overwhelming majority of Android apps are free, it might be worth the small investment to get Weatherbug elite. It's a dollar or two and I love it. You can try it out and get a refund if you don't like it. I have found Weatherbug to be the most accurate app regarding temps, radar, etc. and I've tried a lot of them. There are Weatherbug stations near me and the temp is always the same or very similar to what I show at home. Of course the app changes to your location when you're driving, etc. with the built in GPS. Go read the difference between Weatherbug and Weatherbug Elite and see if you'd want to try it. The real-time, animated radar alone is worth it to me. I've tried a lot of radars, but WB shows exactly where YOU are on the map, too. I just really like it and use it constantly.

Edit: I haven't had a problem with apps freezing up my phone, etc. but I have heard that uninstalling and reinstalling the app often fixes these types of issues. You might want to give that a try.

Well today for Texarkana there was mention of freezing drizzle instead we got more light snow. Got the day off work, so a few of my co-workers that live in the same complex we decided to have a snowball fight/slaughter and then build a snowman. It has been interesting. The roads are slushy but drivable, but once they re-freeze tomorrow should bring about icy conditions yet again.

I have some pics from this weekend and once I figure out how to upload I will share, but this was incredible to witness. There were times when visibility Sunday was less than a quarter mile, but that wouldn't last long.

So I am waiting to see what else is coming our way.

We are getting moderate snow again in Midlothian. Getting a dusting already on the cars where snow had melted earlier today. Wasn't expecting this...

Lucky. Make it come here, blow it up to the north a little bit.

I think the radar might be picking it up, that or it's the front.

Also just got back in from my run, there is still quite a bit of snow on the ground around Denton. I love running when it's cold and snow covered. It's nice to look at and the light reflecting off of it makes it brigther outside. I will miss it when it's gone.

I had to go to work in Fort Worth today and I thought everything had melted because of how Fort Worth looked. I knew we had more snow, but the inch that fell over there was completely gone. As I was coming back home to Frisco it was like everything suddenly turned white again somewhere around The Colony, it's incredible there can be such change over a small distance. Not much has melted over here.

Nice! I may have to take a trip up north to see for myself. :)

The drizzle ended here and the roads have really dried up quickly here. Yay!

I agree. Running during snow is awesome.

Looking forward, can someone give some insight as to what's in store for the next week or so? Is more cold air coming? Any models predicting any moisture associated with it, if so?

Thanks!

Portastorm and I are dying here in Austin. We need something! :D

There's moisture returning midweek, but the lower levels will be so dry. Probably a bunch of mid level clouds and chilly. Models have backed off on the storm this weekend and cold front to next week. JB thinks a big storm will cross the country with a low forming in Texas. No idea how much cold air could be entrenched with this system. PNA is going negative for a bit so likely nothing exciting for about a week, after that a +PNA emerges and possibly more fun then!

I got this email from a female co-worker who knows I am into weather, thought I should share it with you all.
:froze: :cold:

I just got off the phone with friend living in northern North Dakota near the Canadian border.

He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling.

The temperature is dropping way below zero and the north wind is increasing to near gale force.

His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare.

He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.

(yes, it's a joke!)

LOL

Drove back to Austin this afternoon from Lewisville. Interesting, no snow to speak of till I got south of i-20 then there was snow on the fields and slush on the shoulder all the way to just north of Hillsboro. The roads had wet patches. Then it was dry till Belton where it was misty/drizzly. And then it cleared up again just south of Belton.

Got to see snow but had to travel to see it!

Canadian is teasing Portastorm tonight with sneaux flurries Thurs

Edit: I know the cold has been pushed back and back so far. But with the massive freezer that is Canada the next few weeks, all it takes is one switch. I don't ever recalling Canada so cold for so long vs Siberia. I wonder if it's setting stage for February who knows lol. After all, along with December, February has been notorious in the past for extreme winter outbreaks.

Funny thing about it is, you were 10 to 12 miles from it the whole time you were in Lewisville. The Colony still has snow on the ground, Frisco still has quite a bit as I mentioned earlier. I imagine after today, we'll only have snow in the shade for the most part with the sun coming out. As something funny mentioned earlier, it was such a close event on temperature, it seems like the so called heat island effect had an impact on this snow event.

Seems like it kind of snowed all around Dallas but not much in it. But it was a couple of degrees warmer downtown and at the airport throughout the entire event.

European model fantasyland at day 10 (notice how air from the North Pole is aimed for Texas):

Let's see. We have a -EPO and a +PNA. The $64,000 question is will the AO/NAO relax and bring that cold air mass S? We shall see.

I think so. Lots of cold air, hard to believe it will not eventually spill south.

BTW, what a La Nada winter!

A North Texas and southern U.S. snowstorm. Already one huge n'oreaster blizzard on the eastern seaboard and in New England. Now another Mid-Atlantic storm and New England storm.

And it is still not even mid January.

This is a La Nada to...study in depth...and to help us weather geeks learn that a La Nada doesn't necessarily mean absolute mild and dry conditions.
