Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
If I remember correctly our last ice storm here in Central Texas was around MLK day back in 2007 I think. I remember going to get extra food and drinks and I was able to leave the drinks on the back porch and they were colder sitting out there than if I had put them in the fridge. Hope I get to do that again.

Yes it was ... we had 2 1/2 days of a steady temperature in the upper 20s to near 30 with also a somewhat steady drizzle. The end result was roads and sidewalks that were skating rinks and two days of school/business closures. I remember it well and even have some pix.

It does!!

I thought you were being sarcastic, srain, but it actually shows that. What a hoot! If there was ever evidence that the GFS is hopelessly lost right now, that's gotta be it.

From FW NWS.
Famous last words...before a bust?
Or are they right?
TEMPERATURES THE REMAINDER OF THIS WEEKEND THROUGH NEXT WEEK WILL
BE CONSIDERABLY WARMER THAN THEY WERE THIS PAST WEEK WITH HIGH
TEMPERATURES MOST DAYS AT LEAST IN THE 50S AND LOWS GENERALLY IN
THE 30S AND 40S.

We'll see. The storm the Euro is showing won't be till late late next week, so I guess they could still be right in a way.

Yeah I knew the 18z runs of the GFS was the least sane, but that is ridiculous
Talk about a warm-biased model!

Re:
gpsnowman wrote:Ntxw, earlier you mentioned snow and ice for DFW. Do you think that will be late next week or more into the weekend?
Got some traveling to do both days
Chances are pretty good. Not set on it happening though. Many great posters like wxman, txagwman, and srain have pointed out the pattern next week (probably weekend) and if you like snow and ice, that's the kind of setting you'd want! Late week would be the period to watch.

ATM it looks like the potential is highest for Thursday for DFW. But imo this will all depend on the overall track of the low and the arctic air- if will be far enough south (in place) by then.

I remember that storm. I had gone out partying with my friends past my mom's midnight curfew. I came home and found locked doors on the house. I had to spend the night in my car turning the engine on for 5 minutes every hourto build up heat, and wrapped a windshield sun barrier around my legs with a bungie cord to stay warm, and listened to news radio reports on how bad the roads were getting until my mom woke up in the morning.
We only got a few hundredths of an inch of ice accumulation in Plano. But I learned my lesson about breaking curfew.
