I wonder how San Angelo's doing. The radar has awesome returns, but I know a lot of it may be ice pellets (sleet).

San Angelo is reporting light snow and 33 degrees.

Hockey, you've got an intense band moving up from the south. Expect decent snowrates within 30 minutes.

Or heavy sleet.

Should be freezing here by 2am or sooner. I said 3-5am earlier so it looks like I was off by an hour.

Well, following a trend that many on here have followed tonight, I am gonna go to sleep. Heavily medicated & buzzed to ensure I don't worry about the weather. I'm gonna wake up tomorrow & see what happened & get ready to go to work. G'nite all & be safe.

You know what I was just thinking about. How in the heck did people here well before us survive this stuff? They did not have storm2k.org, no NAM, GFS, not even a one day forecast. I mean I hear about old sayings, but how in the heck did they survive in temps and weather like this not knowing when it could/might end and not have homes the way they are today. Imagine driving a herd of cattle across the open plains and one day off to your north you see the sky has a dark blue color to it.................

The elderly can smell weather changes. They were way more in tune with their environments that we are today. Simple changes such as the thickness on an animals coat, the behavior of animals, the acorns or lack of, the movement and patterns of wildlife and birds all told them what they needed to know. I'd say they were just about as accurate, if not moreso, than we often get with today's technology. Not always mind you and we have disasters like Hurricane Audrey that rolled in during the night killing hundreds to prove it.

My grandmother who was a week shy of her 100th birthday told us that a really bad hurricane was coming and she passed away. We blew her off as old and senile. Three weeks later we had Katrina and 3 more weeks later came Rita. Her reasoning was that nature was going to balance itself after a long, dry and snowy winter the previous year along with "I just know".

As for surviving, they prepared as a way of life, not for a single disaster. Their homes ran effectively without being dependent upon the grid. They always had stocked pantries. All year they used what was left of clothing and feed sacks, along with their poultry feathers to hand stitch warm quilts for their bedding and gathered felled trees for firewood and cooking. Yes, "we've come a long way baby" but sometimes I wonder if all of it was for the better. We are so dependent upon technology, just in time supermarkets and modern utilities that we've forgotten how to prepare and survive whatever mother nature dishes out.

Still just a hard rain. You can see the sheets with the wind blowing. Looks like spring time but way to COLD!!!!! Still waiting on whatever frozen stuff is coming my way.

Just went outside to get a camera out of my truck and right now we have rain mixed with some sleet here in Paradise.

However, just heard over the scanner from a medic that Highway 101 between Chico and Bridgeport is getting pretty icy.

Looks to me like temps we'll have another hour or so to drop before the really heavy stuff moves in. Dallas west I'd think would be below freezing.
