Re: Deep South Winterwx thread: Mid February Warm-Up

If I am reading the above correctly, the precip. is gone before the upper air gets cold enough for Wintery precipitation. Remember that what you are seeing in that pic is the previous 6 hr. precip. so you go one more past the one you are posting for the actual precip. for that period. See wxman57's explanation at the top of the winter forums.

Nice run for march. LOL Snow could make it to South Florida in this run if it went farther than this. LOL what if the low was further south.
First time i have seen a run like that. look at the freezing line and -10c line. No wonder why its called fantasy land. I bet the 18z GFS will not have this anymore LOL

Metalicwx220, LOL I am with you about those model runs you posted. Why couldn't we get this type of scenario when we had the favorable pattern set-up back in December and January for snow in North FL and SE GA? Well, we did see snow flurries here the day after Christmas for whatever that's worth.

Oh well, it continues to be fantasy. However, I do think the long range models are onto something for the first week of March. It looks like we will see a shift to a colder pattern again for the Eastern 2/3 of the CONUS within the next 10 days. I think it is very possible that we may see a potential for freezing temps again across the Deep South during the first week of March.

So, I think Old Man Winter will get in one more good parting shot before he finally relinquishes his grip to spring.

Yeah :uarrow: and I hope we get to see actually snow if possible this time because the day after christmas, we had a winter weather advisory and only saw flurries. LOL I wanted to see a dusting. Lets see what march brings us.

Well, you never know with weather. That is why I love monitoring so much. Crazier things have happened. I personally have seen it snow here three times in March since 1989, and of course, don't forget the incredible 1993 March Superstorm.

But, I do think we will see the cold return one more time though at the very least when we get into March.

Well, I searched all through the records and I could not find one single event in the Panhandle or North Florida where any snow was recorded in the month of April.

However, there have been several occasions where it has snowed in March here in Jacksonville and the other parts of North Florida and the panhandle. I posted a link from Wiki showing a list of the reported snow occurances throughout the entire peninsula:

Those temps are really cold. If that verifies that would be close to matching the coldest air of the season. Just not sure how long it would last.
