Re: 2011 SE TX/SW LA Weather:Where's da rain?????
Wife called and we got a brief heavy downpour at the house. The frustrating thing about THIS drought is it really wants to rain. Last year I remember days of crystal clear blue skies. This year clouds have formed and small showers here and there. It is frustrating to know part of the atmosphere wants it to rain and the other not. The hope I have is that once this cap does break or move on, we will have afternoon showers. Seems a good probability considering some showers are able to form even in this intense High Pressure environment.

From what I understand, some of that is supposed to "creep" our way next week. Sure would like to see anything and I mean ANYTHING! More trees and shrubs are dying everyday.

Me neither. While I am a young 36, I have never seen so much vegetation loss. I am not exagerating when I say I see new dead trees every day. We have many commercial properties surrounded by trees and are loosing them at a stagerring rate. It really does scare me to see this happening and thinking this is just the beginning of our hot weather. If things do not change soon, I am sure our town will be call The Woodless.

Unreal - 72% of this huge state in the worst drought category!
I saw a couple of small pop up showers on radar today, but unfortunately, that's the only way I saw them. Someone got a tiny drink, though.

When we lived near pine trees I remember hearing that they have a shallow root system and that's why they are so prone to falling over in windstorms. If it's true, then that would also cause them to stress more than other trees in a drought.
We had a whole row of hackberry trees behind our property when we moved in a few years back. Every time we have a drought some die and then topple in the next windstorm. Our neighbor has had 5 go thru their fence when they fell. So far we've had one. The few remaining are not looking healthy.
I sure hope the idiots on the next street weren't able to buy fireworks!!!!!

Knock on wood, my two pines still seem ok(no browning). However, I have been watering the area where they are so that is probably part of the reason. I have seen many others near us that are obviously in distress. Mine are already dropping pine cones which I think is way early. Squirrels may be looking for something with moisture in it and bringing them down.
Meanwhile we managed between 102f and 104f here at the house today depending on which thermometer you believe. The closest weatherbug site shows 102f for the high too.
edit 8:15pm-Hoping the storms coming in from the North hold together and get here. Temps have plummeted to 81f which we haven't been seeing till early am most days. Thank you outflow!!

I got into a severe storm near IAH on the Beltway about 8 pm. It rained from IAH to my house about 10 miles west of I 45. Of course we did not get near as much rain at our house as everywhere else, but I am not complaining as some is better than none. This was the largest area of rain I have seen in a long time. Hopeful again today for a nice shower.

And the result of those storms was NADA!! We've already made 102F today too. Here's hoping some of the showers I see popping on radar somehow make to my area of Houston. Yard is quickly withering again.

Well I am not complaining by any means but just about 12 miles away there was 3" of rain and I received about .25". We are always so close but yet so far away. The storms seem fairly persistent today it will just be interesting to see who is lucky enough to be under one when it develops or moves into the area. At least we seem to have a chance every day for the next 5 days and have seen development the past 2 days.

Not a drop here, either. I checked radar a few times throughout the day and never saw anything even nearby, unlike the last couple of days where a few lucky people saw some pop up showers. The last time I saw any rain was with that severe storm that knocked out power to thousands of people and lightning blew up my modem. If we do get any rain at all this week, I'm sure it will be tomorrow, when we're grilling, hanging out by the pool, playing washers, etc. That's how it goes, isn't it?

I am in between storms right now. There has been a nice cell to the SW for almost an hour and a new one just developed to the NE. Was hoping the gap would fill in but no luck so far.
