Re: System coming off African Coast
That is one of the strongest looking systems I have seen coming off Africa in a long time. I know all too well how fast they can/do poof, but when they are as strong as this one apparently is, it is definitely more difficult to "poof" them. Should be a good one to watch. Me thinks the season is ramping up. So much for my thoughts about maybe needing to adjust numbers downward if things didn't get busy soon.

Re: System coming off African Coast
The one further NE behind looks just as good in that satellite pic cycloneye posted. Looks maybe two days behind the one emerging off the coast now. And with hints of some possible close in development also, business is definately about to start picking up!

In about 2 weeks or so, these waves will have much better chance of getting their acts together.

GFS has been hot on this system for a while. Develops it almost immediately off the coast, it might even prompt watches/warnings for the Cape Verde Islands. Then the GFS (tonight's 00z at least) takes it WNW/NW into the abyss of the eastern Atlantic above 25N.
On the other hand, the Euro doesn't show diddlysquat here.

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.
Re: System coming off African Coast
Best emerging TW off Africa yet, just in time for the start of August. I think in 12 hours the NHC will give it yellow status at 10%. Planet-wide, the tropics are flaring up massively all of a sudden.

Re: System coming off African Coast
It certainly does look good. What an impressive wave coming off the African coast. Already has nice outflow and look at the banding features this system has even now. One of the best looking waves I have seen in quite some time in this region. I too would not be surprised if this developed in the vicinityity of the Cape Verde islands. Looks almost like a TD even now.

NEVER, EVER SAY NEVER in the tropics and weather in general, and most importantly, with life itself!!
