Here in Riincon on the far western tip of PR. Night was actually fairly calm here -- a few passing bands - fairly light winds -- Feeling lucky so far. Power was out most of the night but just on this AM. Expecting the bands to keep passing through but compared to where storm would have been based on prev forecasts yesterday afternoon I think we lucked out (ended up on south side instead of N) I will let the board know and hope all rest of the islanders are safe.

cant find any news souurce for Puerto Rico but this is some of the initial news reports

news reports online : http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/articl ... 135230.php

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44218395/ns ... ?gt1=43001

http://english.aljazeera.net/weather/20 ... 44185.html

First reports coming in look like thankfully no lose of life.

http://www.prdailysun.com/ daily newspaper but not updated since yesterday yet.

this is link for all Puerto rico radio stations online - http://www.radiotower.com/country-PR.html all spanish speaking so those on forum that understand Spanish could tune in and see what they are saying (I unfortunatly can't speak Spanish any more than buying my veggies from vendors)

Like u MsBee I was wondering how Luis faired especially after seeing that Irene made hurricane in the night. Trust your safe Luis and going by initial reports in News allot of powerlines are down, 800 homes without power but they dont state where on island that is so we might not hear from him for a while if he's in the affected area. Initial news reports internationlly is no lose of life (which is good news). If anyone on here undertsand hispanic Spanish this is the link for all the online radio stations http://www.radiotower.com/country-PR.html in Puerto Rico. None of he local online papers have updates since yesterday or friday. Reminds me of Belize where TV news stop come the weekend & Holidays with only the main radio channels operational.
Check in when you can Luis, and we pray that the lose of life remains at zero.

Gusty, are there no members from the Bahamas? Seems to me that whatever else Irene may do and track she takes, they are going to get direct hit - but no reference to those islands in any of the discussions, that I have seen.

hi, I'm mostly a lurker here, first of all thanks to all regulars posting here - great info like always.

I'm located on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, we are ready and prepared as we can be, hoping the updated forecasted track becomes true and Irene will stay offshore. AT the moment hurricane force winds extend 15 miles from the center to the NE. But 0 miles to the SW. TS winds 45 miles NE, just 15 SW. So conceivably if the center passes just 15 miles north of us we will not see TS or hurricane winds. But it's going to be a close call. Prepared for the worst, hoping for the best.

First outerband just came through here, it started to rain with till now light breeze.

To see live conditions in Cabarete, Dominican Republic, here some webcam links http://www.cabaretewebcam.com/ and http://www.cabaretewebcams.com/ . Will update later if power / internet is till on.

Hello,
Finally got a hold of my dad, he lives in Aguirre (by Ponce), he said he is fine over there, lost power a few times but he doesn't have any damage. His neighbor does, he hasn't really been able to get out yet to check everything out. He said it was very windy and rainy all night. I am just relieved he is ok. Hope everyone made it through safely!

St. Croix has no power nor cell phone service in large areas. Many uncommunicated. St. Thomas fared better. Towns in the east coast of PR such as Fajardo have reported this morning that there is no cell phone communications, down trees and no power.

yes, I agree. the Bahamas are probably going to get a direct hit.
I have never seen anyone here from the Bahamas post, but sometimes there are updates on stormcarib.com
Wishing everyone luck down the line with Irene.

Gusty, thanks for the videos.
