Good morning south Florida! The National Hurricane Center just flew a special plane through Hurricane Irene overnight. So, we have all new information about the storm since you went to sleep. South Florida is no longer in the cone on uncertainty, but we will likely see some affects from the storm.

Track has been trending east for a while now, and is finally east of me! Gonna be cutting it close though.

Living on the beach, storm surge scares me--I fear a storm passing to the south/west. My home has seen stronger winds.

Appreciate the concern. I am prepared.

i like to look at the nao. its forecast not to be negative 5-7 days from now which leads me to think irene will have a hard time going far off shore.

Still only going to be about 2 degrees (120 miles) off of our coast and with TS winds about 185 miles from the center, should put us under a TS watch most likely, but I will take that over the alternative.

I doubt that there will be any watches for south Florida at all with Irene 150!miles off the coast. If so they will be so unimportant.
Luckily this one is over for us.

Given the east trend for the past few hours, is it possible that Irene could affect areas farther in the NE coast like New York?

Going to be a busy couple of days here. I am praying Irene still heads eastward so we are on the west side of her. We are going to wait until tomorrow morning for an evacuation decision, hopefully a better handle on it's landfall. Kids just went back to school this week, might be a really short semester!
