Here is the information from the latest vortex message

Maximum Flight Level Wind: 92kts (~ 105.9mph) in the northeast quadrant at 18:11:10Z

Disclaimer: 50% of the time I have no clue of what I am talking about. Chances are I am taking a less than educated guess that sounds good because 10 years ago I stole Mike Watkins book 'The Hurricane and its Impact'. For official information please direct yourself to the NHC and their cadre of weather geniuses.

The following post is NOT an official forecast and should not be used as such. It is just the opinion of the poster and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. It is NOT endorsed by any professional institution including storm2k.org For Official Information please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Noting that Irene is just about done with her Bahamian adventure. She's just about over nothing but gulfstream and open water till North Carolina.

Whats the deal with these disclaimers anyway? If this is a forum for talking about Hurricanes then obviously discussion about landfall/intensity comes into play most times. If the public wants to find official statements they know the NHC is the place to find it. Not a rant but just something that's been bugging me.

What's "Atlantic watch"? I posted the latest VDM from recon back a bit in the thread. Doesn't support what you say at all. I did hear a Fox news reporter give a supposed gust about the value you gave but that's not recon or authoritative.

Them's teh rules!!

Though you would THINK people wouldn't just believe something they read on the internet, people do that ALL the time. So use the disclaimer.

Basically sue-happy America is full of idiots.

It's because new folks don't know the difference between you and me and actual pro mets. It takes awhile to learn who is who. When I first joined the board, I didn't know those in blue were pro-mets. Not to mention, the legality of things.

Because my 80 year old mom might take what you say as gospel. I want her to be in the know with correct info and not just an opinion.

Use the disclaimer when posting personal forecasts..period. If you have anymore questions regarding the S2K disclaimer, PM a Mod or Admin. Get back to Irene.

That makes sense. Thanks for clearing things up.
Onto Irene and moisture inflow feeding well into the system from the SSTs to her north. http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/?index_region=at

Actually - the stifling heat might be exacerbated by the outflow - it would tend to put warm air up high and it might cause an inversion cap, thus making it miserable, sticky, hot, and no freakin rain.

The surfers on the LBTS cam are about to get pummeled by the incoming rainband. The last couple were pretty darn windy.
