Quick question for all you Eastern NC folks. Does anyone know if there is a place you can watch any of the local news stations online? I have been watching the video updates, but would love to watch more complete coverage. We don't have TV, which usually I love, but not so much during times like this.

SEVERAL COASTAL COMMUNITIES WILL LIKELY BE DAMAGED...WITH THOSE
STRUCTURES NOT RAISED OR PROTECTED BY A SEAWALL BEING SUBJECT TO
SIGNIFICANT FLOODING...ESPECIALLY DURING HIGH TIDE. LARGE WAVES
AND POUNDING SURF WILL ACCENTUATE PROPERTY DAMAGE IN EXPOSED
LOCATIONS. FLOOD WATERS MAY EXTEND WELL INLAND IN SPOTS. MANY
CARS WILL LIKELY BE SUBMERGED OR WASHED AWAY.

SUBSTANTIAL BEACH EROSION WILL OCCUR. MANY ROADS WILL LIKELY BE
DAMAGED OR WASHED OUT BY THE FLOOD WATERS...LEAVING SECTIONS OF
COASTAL COMMUNITIES IN FLOOD PRONE AREAS TEMPORARILY CUT OFF.
ROADWAY TRAVEL MAY BE DANGEROUS WITH SEVERAL ROADS CLOSED.

I am just to the east of New Bern down by the Toyota dealership. I am staying. No large trees nearby and am on high ground plus newer home.

Is that near Carolina Pines? We're not too far from you, I live on Brice's Creek.

I'm located on Oak Island presently. When things start to pick up I'll try to post updates and pictures as long as possible. Luckily I don't have any trees that can land around the house.

I am about 4 miles from the airport down 70. Carolina Pines is another 7 or 8 miles further.

I'm glad that it seems like the states and shore towns are taking this seriously and starting the evacuations now before it's too late. If Ocean City, MD is looking empty, then people are listening and that's great!

Not a lot of details coming out of our local NWS which is concerning because they are ground zero for the NHC track. Not sure why they aren't doing more to inform the public.

The official forcast from them as of 2pm today is for "winds over 80 mph east of highway 17 on saturday" which means from a jacksonville to new bern to washington line, or just inland from the coast. Otherwise, they are quiet as a mouse. Outdoing themselves today on dropping the ball.....
Hopefully RAL will step-up and post some watches/warnings for their eastern CWA and force MHX into action before it gets to be too late for people inland to prepare.

Ouch. Have a daughter in Jacksonville, N.C. Haven't reached her yet about evacuations.

Norfolk is under a state of emergency and there is a mandatory evacuation for all low-lying areas.

Looks like the storm has weakened some, hopefully that will help a little and it doesn't restrengthen or "bomb" before landfall. I am thinking not, but it's still mighty fierce and nobody should let their guard down one bit! I am trying to guess when we'll lose power. Our neighborhood loses power frequently, but am hoping it at least stays on overnight.

Now and this afternoon are THE time to get your final preparations complete!

To all my fellow Eastern NC'ers: Please be careful! I know y'all know what to do, we've been through the threat many times...so remember to listen to your local Emergency Managers...also, I'm assuming that Havelock High School is probably open as a shelter, they have done that many times in the past (I remember going to school and one area of the cafeteria being sectioned off during Ophelia).
