A halo around the Moon
franceantilles.fr08.09.2011

:rarrow: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.a ... 124997.php

A ring of light hung the Moon Wednesday night. Those who thought to an alien invasion, or any sign of the end of the world can exclude these assumptions. It was simply a lunar halo. "It is the reflection of light caused by the moon through crystals of ice, present in some high-altitude clouds" explains Maurice Henry researcher and enthusiast of astronomy.
An impressive phenomenon which was visible especially in the South of the island. It can occur the same thing with the Sun. Referred to as a solar Halo.
Several parameters should coincide in order to observe this type of phenomenon, as the angle of observation, temperature, humidity. It is the same principle as for Rainbows. According to Maurice Henry, this is not a new phenomenon. For the history, in 1899 in Saint-Pierre, many people were impressed a lunar halo.

Weather: Maria should give its first rains Friday
franceantilles.fr09.09.2011

:rarrow: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.a ... 125005.php

It is always the great uncertainty concerning the Storm Maria. The phenomenon is not very organized, and the storm conditions occur only in the northern part of the system. According to weather France, it is not expected intensification of the system. The centre is expected to spend between Martinique and Guadeloupe in the night of Friday to Saturday. The chosen scenario, which involves uncertainties, incites caution. A passage at the level of vigilance orange rest possible.
The associated stormy rains are expected late morning. Staple in the first place they are likely to strengthen in the afternoon and will continue into tomorrow.
To swell, it will arrive this afternoon with average lows of 3 metres and will widen to 3.5 m night crossing with the sea of the wind. Hollow of the order of 5 m maximum can be possible, prevent the forecasters.
Caution is therefore implementation. The possibility of falling of trees is not to evacuate, and the likely reactions of the River end of the day or the evening.
The conditions of navigation at sea may be difficult. The Sea becoming ground in the afternoon, and poor visibility.

This mornings discussion by Rob of Crown Weather.

The posts in this forum are NOT official forecast and should not be used as such. They are just the opinion of the poster and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. They are NOT endorsed by any professional institution or storm2k.org. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Tropical Storm Maria:
Satellite imagery this morning indicates that convection is increasing with Maria and it is expected that Maria will continue to strengthen slowly as it tracks across the northeastern Caribbean on Saturday and Saturday night. Once Maria tracks to the north of Puerto Rico on Sunday, we should see a somewhat quicker rate of intensification and Maria should become a hurricane by early next week. Maria is tracking west-northwest at a forward speed of 18 to 19 mph this morning. Most of the track model guidance are forecasting a track across the northeastern Caribbean Saturday followed by a track that takes Maria to the east of the Bahamas and then northward well east of the United States. The European model is further west and forecasts a track that takes Maria across the Bahamas on Wednesday and Thursday and then impacts eastern North Carolina next Sunday.

Tropical Storm Warnings are now in effect for most of the islands in the northeastern Caribbean and tropical storm conditions are expected from today through Saturday across the northeastern Caribbean.

I think Maria will end up tracking further west than the track models suggest perhaps turning north at around 74 West Longitude. A trough of low pressure is forecast to push off of the US East Coast next week and this should be able to deflect Maria north and northeast away from the US East Coast.

On Monday & Tuesday nights we had 2 severe thunderstorms hit Southern Belize, proof that you dont need a TS to create allot of destruction and damage. Monday night elec was knocked out for 6 hours to my area, tuesday night was worse. http://www.7newsbelize.com/sstory.php?n ... &frmsrch=1 banana plantations had 50-80% of banana trees wiped out, the substation in Independence had direct lightening strike to transformer which meant from 12.45am most of the surrounding area had no elec for nearly 24hours, while I was lucky my village was reconnected by 5.50am as we were diverted to another substation, but Placencia village and areas in Independence village didn't get elec back on for 24hrs. then another 8 hour blackout for whole area on weds while they continued repairs to the elec feeder for the area. The storm travelled North and apparently a house was blown down in Belize City from gusts of 35mph. Belize met dept underestimated the winds within the storm system and that they would affect more than the South. http://www.7newsbelize.com/sstory.php?n ... &frmsrch=1
