Ok, after having seen THIS, I'm officially waving my white-flag one day before I said I would do it (on March 15).
Sigh, what a non-winter for those of us who love snow and cold.
@TWCMikeBettes: "Chicago hit 80 today. First time in 22 years it's hit 80 in March."

Don't worry! We had a bad winter due after two good ones. All signs point to a good winter next one, we'll get our revenge! I'm counting on Sir Nino to take over, and that's after double ninas and a bad second one! That spells fantasmo in cold monger language!
74-75, 01-02, and 08-09 were similar winters that were considered bad for us with similar style weather as this winter. All three were followed by winter apocalypses! (and El ninos)

If we have El Nino by the end of 2012, it would be since 2009 we had La Nina to El Nino in one year. Some of the coldest winters have occurred, like 1972-1973, 1976-1977, and 2009-2010.
National Temperate Ranking December to February 1895-2011
1971-1972 33.17°F 58th La Nina
1972-1973 31.74°F 29th El Nino
1973-1974 33.85°F 79th La Nina
1974-1975 33.61°F 70th La Nina
1975-1976 35.21°F 101st La Nina
1976-1977 30.67°F 11th El Nino
1977-1978 29.68°F 7th El Nino
1978-1979 27.29°F 1st Neutral
1979-1980 33.95°F 84th Neutral

May be one of the chilliest nights that we have here in the Red River Valley until next fall.
It's 43 in Denison right now.
Doubt we'll get into the upper 30s tonight, but with clear skies and very light winds, it might be close in a few of the colder spots.

Alright so it's been a wet winter for a lot of Texas. Many of us wonders why that was so in a La Nina. Well I think I've come to a conclusion! The +PNA! La Nina's are supposed to favor -PNA's but reality there was only two of such that really happened this winter (both featured very warm and dry temps in Texas). There's probably other factors as well but this was the biggest sign I saw looking back.
Of course the AO never truly cooperated therefore most of the storms did nothing winter wise (unless you had elevation cough Midland cough).

One last post in this thread, something to look forward to since we had such a boring winter. Next winter (2012-2013) is starting to look eerily similar to 1976-1977, 2002-2003, 2009-2010 with a possible weak to maybe moderate nino after double ninas. Those analogs are some of the best we winter lovers have. I sense revenge coming, now bring on the (wet) hot summer!
