I have seen lightning many times with tropical systems......usually only with depressions and storms however. Not usually with hurricanes unless only the distant outer bands.

For anyone with shortwave or ham radio capability, they just activated the Hurricane Watch Net. http://www.hwn.org/ . Frequency is currently 14.325 upper side band.

Is the SATERN net operational on 14.265 yet or not? Just checking.

Just got off of the phone with my uncle who lives near a lake in an open area in Davie. He said they had one gust that was 60MPH and his neighbor lost a tree so far. He is fairly used to these storms since 2004 so there isnt much panic. Just more of a nuisance.

Is it me or is Cuba still disrupting this storm as in the inflow is being restricted, satellite and radar seem to indicate that

Down here, we've had steady rain for a while...those rainbands behind that blob of rain seem intense.

Mostly a rain event here in Kendall. Looks like a big break on the radar after this set of squalls move through.

This is the best the convection and banding has looked in quite a while. Strongest appears to be impacting the keys now.

You're defintely right. Strong inflow channel but bringing in very little moisture. Cuba really has been the saving grace for the keys and south FL.

I don't think it is very realistic to put much stock in the Navy cone, unless you have boating or shipping interests in the Gulf. Their cone is exaggerated greatly so that they can easily see what ships they have to move out of the area while giving those ships enough time to move.
