I think he meant well, and people took what he said out of context. Instead of "can't find a shelter or can't shelter in place", all they heard was "evacuate the city!"

Yeah, I agree, it wasn't panicked instruction, it was a last resort type of thing

It probably didn't help that the tornadoes struck during rush hour and people were on the interstates anyway trying to get home

Also, an OKC tv weather guy may have implied that people were unsafe in their homes and should try to evacuate (WTF?).

I've been watching the KFOR stream for most of the day, and during the early stages of the Union City tornado the guy on KFOR said if you can't find a storm shelter or can't shelter in place in the OKC metro, he mentioned repeatedly to evacuate to the south

Well, I wasn't going to mention names, but now that it's come out, I'm going to hop on a soapbox - Mike Morgan is a colossal idiot, and even knowing that, it blows my mind that he actually said that. I know nothing will come of it, but if any good can ever come of this:

Not sure. I was watching KOCO at times as well and all they mentioned was to "stay in shelter" or "stay put"

KFOR is camped out at a gas station somewhere in the western OKC metro running on a generator (only place with power in the area)...the station had closed but people caught outside in the storm busted open the glass doors to take shelter inside

Reed posted video of that multiple vortex tornado it reminded me of the Joplin tornado but more violent

It does sound like Mike Morgan will - if justice is served - have done his last night at KFOR. He definitely deserves to be fired after tonight. That station may have gained a bad reputation that may be hard to shake off...

I don't know if they have done search and rescue there, so it is possible that some of the fatalities were in that group. So far 5 reported dead, of which 2 were a mother and her young child (likely just driving home).

The weather appears to be getting in the way of search and rescue. The worst part about this is that chasers could be dead. This tornado reminded me of a Dixie Alley tornado outbreak because everything was rain wrapped and dangerous to chase.

No, probably nothing will come of it. It may be my cynicism talking, but if anything, KFOR will make a scary, dramatic commercial about "MIKE MORGAN! KEEPING YOUR FAMILY SAFE FROM THE STORM! WATCH HIM ON KFOR!"

I was driving home on Wednesday out in the Texas panhandle and was pretty close to the storms and those guys were dangerous. I was trying to get home and the amount of storms chasers and their attempt to out maneuver the next chaser made the journey dangerous. There are getting to be to many for this not to happen more often. The sad thing is most appear to be freelance guys with the day off.

I know one storm chaser on Fox News said the traffic was a major issue. I mean its a death trap your stuck in traffic and you have this massive super violent tornado that is rain wrapped. Through in people who do not know how to chase and you have the makings of tragedy

KFOR was already the black sheep even before this, after the Moore OK EF5 on May 20th they were looked upon very negatively by the weather community moreso than ever before. This is just the cherry on top.

I keep reading people that think something bad is going to happen to the chasers in terms of laws and regulations because of yesterday, and all that. Nothing is going to happen, mark my words. All this commotion over some craziness will not result in anything. In a week everyone is going to forget it except us.

At 0228 UTC on the national radar map, I saw incredibly high dbz values and whites appearing on one cell that was the former supercell of the El Reno 1st monster. Wonder what type of hail fell on there.

The training storms on OKC are still going, man what the heck is going on?



Never seen anything like that, its bizarre. What meteorological process is creating that? Probably no one will answer that.

As far as laws, nothing will happen until chasers get killed. That is when you will see some people start pushing for some form of regulations.
