Most of us in the Lesser Antilles have been spared but Martinica not. By the way, how are you Caribwxgirl, what's up in your island? :)

Hi Gusty I'm good. Sorry about Martinica. Things here are ok. I'm just waiting to see how much of this rain we get.

Good morning. Good weather will prevail today with only isolated showers. The weather will be more rainy next week as troughs and Tropical Waves move thru.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
430 AM AST THU JUL 11 2013

.SYNOPSIS...A GENERALLY STABLE WEATHER PATTERN IS EXPECTED TO
PREVAIL ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA THROUGH AT LEAST SATURDAY. A DENSE
AREA OF SAHARAN DUST WILL CONTINUE TO REACH THE NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN
ISLANDS THROUGH FRIDAY...PRODUCING HAZY SKIES AND SOME AREAS OF
REDUCED VISIBILITIES. WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL BECOME MORE ACTIVE
NEXT WEEK.

&&

.DISCUSSION...THE TROPICAL WAVE OVER SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS ASSOCIATED
WITH THE REMNANTS OF CHANTAL IS PRODUCING SCATTERED MID TO HIGH
CLOUDS ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA EARLY THIS MORNING. THIS CLOUDINESS
WILL CONTINUE TO DIMINISH AS THE REMNANTS OF CHANTAL CONTINUES TO
MOVE NORTHWEST ACROSS THE SW NORTH ATLANTIC. DRIER WEATHER PATTERN
WILL CONTINUE TO ESTABLISH ACROSS THE LOCAL ISLANDS TODAY AND
FRIDAY AS A DENSE AREA OF SAHARAN DUST ENCOMPASS THE LOCAL REGION.
THEREFORE...EXPECT HAZY SKIES AND RELATIVELY DRY WEATHER PATTERN
OVER PUERTO RICO AND U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS.
HIGH RESOLUTION WRF-NMM AS WELL AS NAM-DNG5 SUGGEST THAT THE
AFTERNOON CONVECTION WILL BE LOCALIZED OVER THE WESTERN INTERIOR
AND WEST SECTIONS OF PUERTO RICO. THIS SOLUTION LOOKS REASONABLE...
BECAUSE THE SEA BREEZE CYCLE SHOULD DOMINATE THE WEATHER CONDITIONS
TODAY.

MODELS ARE TRENDING TOWARDS A WETTER SOLUTION AS THE TROPICAL UPPER
TROPOSPHERIC TROUGH...TUTT...RELOCATES NORTHWEST OF THE LOCAL AREA
AND INDUCE AN EASTERLY PERTURBATION ON SUNDAY/MONDAY. THEN...A TROPICAL
WAVE IS FORECAST TO MOVE ACROSS THE NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN BY MIDWEEK
NEXT WEEK. OVERALL...BOTH FEATURES WILL BRING AN ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN
ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA NEXT WEEK.

&&

.AVIATION...A DRIER AIR MASS WILL ALLOW TERMINALS TO REMAIN VFR
THROUGH AT LEAST 11/16Z...HOWEVER SAHARAN DUST WILL LIKELY REDUCE
VISIBILITIES TO AS LOW AS 7 TO 10 MILES AT THE SFC. AFT 16Z EXPECT
SHRA/TSRA IN SOUTHWEST INTERIOR PR ALONG THE CORDILLERA CENTRAL AND
EXTENDING WEST TO NEAR TJMZ FOR MOUNTAIN OBSCURATIONS AND LIKELY
MVFR CIGS AT TJMZ WITH PASSING VSBYS AS LOW AS 2 SM. WINDS ALOFT E
10 TO 20 KT BUT TURNING NE AFT 11/18Z. SFC WINDS DOMINATED BY SEA
BREEZES OF 10 TO 20 KT 11/14-11/21Z. LOW CIGS REPORTED AT TIST AND
TISX MAY BE RESULT OF INSTRUMENT SENSITIVITY TO SAHARAN DUST.

&&

.MARINE...WINDS AND SEAS WILL CONTINUE TO DIMINISH SLIGHTLY TODAY.
NEARSHORE BUOYS OVERNIGHT SHOWED SEAS UP TO 5 FEET AND WINDS
AROUND 15 KTS. A DENSE AREA OF SAHARAN DUST IS EXPECTED TO AFFECT
THE LOCAL REGION THROUGH AT LEAST FRIDAY...RESULTING IN SOME
AREAS OF REDUCED VISIBILITIES.

Latest news, recap of TS Chantal in Martinica

The storm passed quickly
R.L. Wednesday, July 10, 2013

:rarrow: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.a ... 224629.php

The wind blew on average between 60 and 80 km/h yesterday, with gusts up to 120 km/h on landforms, damaging plantations of bananas, like here in François.

Tropical storm Chantal, characterized by strong winds, heavy thunderstorm rains and rough seas, has resulted in its wake numerous tree falls, blocking roads and cutting up to 50,000 Martinique of electricity. It has not, however, caused major damage.

It was expected since the night before, she not focussed. Chantal, the first tropical storm of the season really plagued for two or three hours before continuing its route in Caribbean, to Haiti and Santo Domingo. A lightning passage but nevertheless noticed. In the wake of the centre of the phenomenon located to the South of Martinique, the storm has led dozens of trees falls, yesterday at the four corners of the island. Result: many roads were blocked or cut, requiring the intervention of technical services of the Regional Council and the General Council. Also, firefighters were mobilized throughout the day. At sea, at Anse Mitan, a family aboard a catamaran, which anchor was unstable, had to be evacuated by the SNSM. Several ships are also found in difficulty in the Bay of marin (rupture of anchor or drift).

Yesterday evening, Martinique was ironed in vigilance yellow ("be careful"), indicated weather-France, in its newsletter of 17.05, without excluding, again, from heavy rains and thunderstorms up to this morning (see page 5).

UP TO 50 000 MARTINIQUE PRIVATE OF ELECTRICITY

On the side of everyday life, the passage of Chantal, which necessitated a cyclonic vigilance level Orange, has also led numerous perturbations: several companies closed their doors before the time, oral of the tray was reprofiled to today, Mozaik buses and shuttles Madinina themselves are switched off, airlines have had to shift their flights... At the height of the phenomenon, up to 50,000 Martinique were deprived of electricity.

Yesterday evening, society waters Martiniquaise informed its customers in reason incidents caused on the electrical network, drinking water supply could be disrupted in the following communes: François, Lamentin, Marin, Rivière-Pilote, Rivière-Salée, Holy Spirit, Sainte-Luce, Vauclin. But despite all these uncertainties and concerns of a part of the population not knowing, at any time, if it were to return to his home or remain at work, the storm caused no major damage yesterday.

All of the roads should be reinstated today in the day, as EDF of the last customers subscriptions still deprived of power.

-SALES

69 It is the number of interventions made yesterday by firefighters from Martinique. All of rescue centres placed on alert, essentially participated in reconnaissance, signs of dangerous areas - utility poles on the ground, etc...- and clearances to the chain saw with the roads blocked by falling tree.

News from St Lucia. Nothing bad occurs: a minor landslide have been reported, some trees down...

IT’S OVER: MET Services issues “all clear” for Tropical Storm Chantal
SNO
- Tuesday, July 9th, 2013 at 2:25 PM

:rarrow: http://www.stlucianewsonline.com/its-ov ... m-chantal/

Tropical Storm Chantal continues to move rapidly away from Saint Lucia and the threats from the hazards associated with this system have diminished considerably, the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services reports.

“Tropical storm warnings have been discontinued for Saint Lucia from 2 pm today. As a result, the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will issue no more advisories on Tropical Storm Chantal. However, small craft operators are advised to remain in port for the remainder of today,” the final weather advisory states.

“Sea-bathers should stay away from the sea since the seas will subside very slowly. Residents of areas prone to flooding and landslides should exercise extreme caution,” the release adds.

The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services says it will issue additional statements if the need arises.

Good news continue in St Lucia :).

Tropical Storm Chantal caused no major power system issues – LUCELEC
LUCELEC -
Tuesday, July 9th, 2013 at 5:07 PM

:rarrow: http://www.stlucianewsonline.com/tropic ... em-issues/

Tropical Storm Chantal caused no major problems with the electricity infrastructure.

St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC ) is reporting that the power system fared very well throughout the storm. There was no damage to infrastructure and the majority of customers had electricity throughout the storm.

In the north there were some isolated incidents of power fluctuations in some areas, small areas being without power, some reports of branches falling on lines and taking these lines to the ground, and two cases of meters being pull off their mountings.

A small area in Monchy was out of power where a tree fell across a power line. A LUCELEC crew working with the St. Lucia Fire Service was able to clear the tree and restore the power fairly quickly.

In the south, in the early afternoon there was a power outage affecting the areas from Ravine Claire to Bouton, including Soufriere Town. There were isolated outages in Belle Plaine and Etangs as well.

LUCELEC’s Trouble Call crews have been in the field through most of the day attending to these and in many instances these faults have been dealt with.

With the all clear having been given, some additional crews have been dispatched to speed up the resolution of the faults that have been reported.

LUCELEC reminds customers that faults should be reported to its Trouble Call section at 452-2165 in the north and 454-6617 in the south.

Tropical Storm Chantal Recap
weather.com

:rarrow: http://www.weather.com/news/weather-hur ... n-20130708

Tropical Storm Chantal formed in the tropical Atlantic Ocean on the night of July 7, 2013.

Chantal then swept through the Windward Islands on July 9, 2013 with heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Wind gusts from 50-55 mph were measured in St. Lucia and a peak gust to 78 mph was measured in Martinique.

As the storm moved briskly into the eastern Caribbean, it struggled to remain intact due to strong winds in the upper atmosphere.

On the afternoon of July 10, 2013, a Hurricane Hunter aircraft investigating Chantal found that the system no longer had low-level circulation center and that it had degenerated into a tropical wave (elongated area of low pressure). As a result, the National Hurricane Center issued its final advisory for Chantal at 5 p.m. on July 10, 2013. Though Chantal was no longer officially a tropical storm, it continued to dump heavy rainfall over Hispaniola at that time.
