5 for the reason that I think up to August 15 there will be 2 and the second half will feature 3 and the majors will be in the second half

I'm going to go with 6 storms. The Cape Verde has been active generally early this season, and I'm expecting 3 or 4 storms this upcoming month to be long trackers across the Atlantic. Looks like the MJO will be neutral in the coming month, so we shouldn't have many surprising large amount of storms.

Yep, 6 sounds good to me; perhaps a bit conservative especially if we soon start to see additional systems coming through the African "birth canal"

I voted for 6. I think the lid could start coming off as we head into the middle of August.

I said 4, but it could easily be 5.

Plunked in a 5. Would like it more quiet than that, but get the impression that most people are thinking much more. I'm splitting the difference.

I voted 5, 2 hurricanes no major. I know the subtropics have been relatively quiet but I'm a believer that the east coast will be active. Those waters north of the MDR are awfully warm. I know also the Bermuda high has been dominant but as we head closer to the autumnal equinox I think it will budge.

Going with four. Three will be weak/moderate storms just like Chantal and Dorian and one will probably make it to hurricane. Not buying into the hype this year. East coast trough looks like its here to stay along with fronts still coming down and making it all the way down to the gulf. Conditions just aren't there this year, much like last.

I went with 9, in line with my overall season numbers. 3 major hurricanes out of that.
I'll take a page from RainbowAppleJackDash, you must be KIDDING right? O_O .

Re: How many named systems will form in August?
No, not really. Not talking about overall numbers. Sure there could be 18 total weak systems that just make names and make the forecasts look good. I'm talking about number of hurricanes and potential impact. We have been dominated by fronts and east coast troughs on a weekly basis and until that changes I won't change my opinion.
