I have a parka I don't get to use much down here, but I just wore it while scraping ice off my windshield, the car is the only thing we had ice on, everthing else is liquid and that ice is melting, it was really slush.

All I can say is :"God Bless the Quachita Mountains". Temperatures in Texarkana are still in the middle 30's because of cold air damming in the Quachita mountains of Central Arkansas and SE Oklahoma. On occasion, very shallow arctic air masses have trouble traversing the 2000+ foot Quachita mountains. When this happens, the brunt of the cold air is delayed by 24 or so hours. It's actually colder right now in Austin than in Texarkana. The colder air should move into the Texarkana area around noon. However, by then, the bulk of the precipitation should be over, with only minor icing issues this afternoon. I received over 1.5 inches of rain last night. If that rain had fallen into subfreezing temperatures, this would of been December 2000 all over again.

6:00 GFS has North Texas getting ice and snow Saturday night - Monday morning. Could this be like the Super Bowl 2011 storm? where the day before friday the NWS only had a 20% chance of snow but my area ended up getting 6 inches of snow on top of the sleet and ice. :double:

Last figure I saw from official sources was "close to 300,000."

Joking about what? we seriously got 6 inches of snow after the ice storm. My friend and I had are 2nd annual Snow Bowl that Friday because of it.

Note that power companies do not report the number of "people" without power, they report "customers" without power. A family of 4 is one customer. An entire apartment complex, condo, or office building could be one customer. With 300,000 customers without power, that probably translates to over 1 million people.

Good point and clarification, sir. Meanwhile those roads that were closed in the far northwestern parts of the AUS metro area appear to be re-opening. Temps climbing a degree or two. Came into downtown from SW Austin and temps were 33-34 with minimal moisture. I'm quite happy we're not dealing with "icemageddon."

lucked out here in Fort Worth as I still have power. Off work today because of the weather so i got my wish and can watch the World Cup Draw. I just went outside and I think one of my favorite parts about weather like this is how quiet and peaceful it is outside. I live about 100 yards away from I-30 and there's hardly any traffic at all.

A small layer of ice on the furniture from just freezing drizzle all night at the Weatherdude Center. Had about 15 seconds of moderate rain later at 32 degrees. Created a fresh layer of ice on the bushes and trees. But no ice on the driveway or sidewalk.

Snapped this photo while stopped at a stoplight on my way to work. I noticed small icicles on the road signs at the intersection of Parmer Lane and Mopac (Highway Loop 1) in Austin.

Look what the GFS is showing next weekend. Curious if that trend will hold.
