Texas Winter 2013-2014

What's up all my frozen peeps....lol

Never could get signed in on my smart phone to post over the weekend. So here are my Winter Storm reports late. First my area would be the I-20, 820 and 287 interchange in S. Arlington/Kennedale (Tarrant County). Total accumulation of precip .25 of ice topped with 2.25" of sleet. Never lost power however did have many power surges on Friday. No trees lost but I did lose both my big rose bushes as they pretty much were snapped in half.

How do y'all like that 12z GFS run which just came out?! Especially towards Christmas

I'm pretty certain one cycling enthusiast/private sector meteorologist in the Houston area will absolutely hate it!

I had a Deja Vu yesterday, And I remember when I first saw it It later showed a Monster Snowstorm hitting Texas around Christmas. Maybe this GFS run is a sign of whats going to happen on Christmas.

I saw the 12Z. As I've feared, this winter doesn't look like it's going to be one of my favorites. Looks like most of the precip is in the form of pre-frontal squalls, not post-frontal snow just before Christmas. Very little moisture indicated over Houston once the cold air sets in. Low of 24 on the 23rd and 21 on the 24th. Highs in the low 30s. GFS does indicate 1mm to 2mm precip amounts in the cold air. I suppose that could be a frozen type given the airmass overhead. Long way off, though. Perhaps tomorrow's 12Z run will be better (highs in the 70s or 80s).

You know Porta and Wxman57, the GFS is ( remember the runs back in the day on here...2007 where we would laugh and laugh...) getting better. I know this is a LONG way off, but you know...

That temperature map you posted valid 12Z the 23rd looks off, Portastorm. No way the 2m temps are forecast to be near zero across south Louisiana. And note that the 10F line goes through north Houston (IAH). I plotted the meteogram using that same 12Z GFS data and got 24 degrees for 12Z on the 23rd, not 10 degrees.

We may run out of our supply of Grey Goose early if this verifies. As long as my flight to Denver is not delayed at Houston Hobby on Christmas day, I say bring it on.

Hey ... I don't draw the maps! If I did ... I would place the 0F line through your part of Houston.

Belize is nice this time of year. So says the commercials on TV that were a dime a dozen this weekend. The Belize tourist board sure knows how to time their advertising blitzes with the weather here in the US.

Is this is the same GFS model that had Seattle dropping to -7 in the same 348-360 hr time frame last week? I've learned many times the GFS is useless that far out (Thank God!), though it is high time the SE got in on the action. In fact send it ALL their way, we've had our winter already, this is getting real old real fast.

12z GFS shows Lafayette getting down to 19 degrees on 12/24! We haven't hit the teens since 1996!

Wouldn't "apparent" temperature refer to wind chill?

Back in Houston! Wanted to thank you guys for the news info on Saturday night. It was very helpful. It took a while to make it back home but i made it safely.

Models look to be pointing to more cold *fist pump*

If we get a SSW event like Joe says, it could get super cold down here!

Was chilly this weekend!

A friend said I may want to check my rain barrel because his had solid ice in it. Mine had a mini icicle, I assume from a leak caused by the expansion and freezing water in place. Left a cool looking formation, like it was frozen in time! The rain barrel itself was all liquid in my case (PHEW!)
