Or, maybe, it will be warmer than the GFS is indicating!

It's not often I reply to myself, but take a look at the 06z GFS temp forecast for Houston next week. Gone are highs in the low 30s next Wednesday. Highs in the mid 60s now! Have my hand on the U.S. weather thermostat now...

If only wxman57 could actually control the computer models. You have to love the wild swings as those computer models attempt to reconcile the magnitude of the coldest air of the season so far. When I see a 1038mb High pressure over OK/MO switch to 1048mb 6 hours later, I do not feel confident that those models actually know what to expect. And boy did the NWS offices flip overnight from a conservative approach with the Arctic front late Saturday to that of the coldest air since 2011...all in less than 12 hours.

I'll make a bet with anyone that we won't see anywhere near mid 60s next week.

OK, I will bet you, 60s will return to your area if not Wednesday the rest of next week, fairly easy to win it when both the GFS and the Euro show that it will be a very progressive shot of Arctic air, which makes sense with the lack of a Greenland Block the Arctic core will head out to the western Atlantic very quickly and moderating air from the Pacific will take over the US as the jet stream lifts and flattens out.

$1 billion seems a tad high. A donation to s2k seems like a good place to start. :D

:P Safe bet for IAH. We all know that they have a jet engine aimed directly at the observation equipment. And ThunderSleetDreams would look good in that orange donator Tag!!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, it's a balmy 22 degrees in Denison with a brisk windchill.

As the Arctic hits keep on coming, it's perfect bike riding weather. Or pack up and move to the equatorial region. :)

Thinking of moving here:

http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/climat ... l-ethiopia

Sounds like heaven!:

"Dallol, Ethiopia
This scorching hot town in the Afar Depression of Ethiopia holds the record for having the highest average annual temperature ever recorded. From 1960 to 1966, Dallol averaged 94 degrees Fahrenheit (daytime temperatures regularly rose to over 100 degrees). This number is an annual average, meaning that Dallol's temperature dips only moderately throughout the year. There is almost never a break from the heat at any time of the year.
"

Can't believe Death Valley made the list of hottest places. The desert gets quite cold at times...

Near 40F with a strong north wind here.

Hey hey guys lets keep it civil. Betting over models that show 30s one run then 60s the next is not smart either way. Look at how warm it is now outside of Florida...and the models were calling for 30s lows here its 25.

Speaking of 25, another freeze the 26th, 27th cometh

Meh...it's not that cold. International Falls, MN broke their record last night with a balmy -45F. They are currently experiencing a heat wave with a toasty -41F and the real Arctic air hasn't even settled S yet. I am seeing a lot of -20 to -30 degree departures since 24 hours ago across the Central/Southern Rockies into the Plains. Just wait to the real cold arrives.

Now, now ... this is a family friendly weather forum and we don't encourage gambling. However, I wouldn't bet against ThunderSleetDreams. He's still riding the hot hand after his Aggies pulled out that impressive Chick-fil-a Bowl win.

Personally, I think anyone banking on a progressive flow with "moderating" temps in Texas next week is asking for trouble. And a thinner wallet. But then again, I've been known to have a cold bias.

I saw an amazing weather stat in the last few days about International Falls. For the month of December, they only had three hours of above freezing temperatures! :cold:

Haha, I wasn't gettin ornery. I just don't believe we will have a progressive pattern via the latest run. It's the first time it really showed that, and I just don't see an airmass this deep and powerful sweeping out and moderating us to the mid 60s by Wednesday.

Of course, I still haven't completely sobered up from watching the Ags the other night. They've added years to my life and $$ to my Goose tab recently. :)

A little background on the telecommunication indices via the 00Z suite. The AO is forecast to reach its lowest negative near -2.5 on January 6th. That would be the lowest negative we have seen from the AO so far the Fall/Winter season. The PNA forecast to be positive +2.5 to +3 near the 6th while the EPO is forecast to be near the -2.5 range at the same time. The WPO is near -1 to -1.5 during the same time frame.
