Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
GFS and Euro are now backing away from any hints of a major pattern change and winter weather for Texas. Euro ensembles are warmer through 360 hrs, indicating only an occasional period of slightly below-normal temps (This Thu-Sat and next Thu-Sun). Euro deterministic has a light freeze in D-FW next Sunday (31-33F). GFS is slightly colder with 29-30 in Dallas next Sunday. The only predicted winter weather in Texas for the next 2 weeks is at hour 372 of the 06Z GFS, which has a tiny patch of light snow in the central Panhandle.

I was only stating my observations of the model runs.

I didn't see anything in JB's video the other day about snow down to the Gulf Coast. He mentioned the I-20 corridor (Dallas to Jackson, MS) for possible winter weather. I agree it's possible, but snow for that area wouldn't be in my forecast just yet.
Meanwhile, had a nice 35 mile ride yesterday in shorts/short sleeves. It was still a bit cool when the clouds blocked the sun, even with a high of 77.

Yup, he's getting pretty predictable this winter. Maybe instead of a "Groundhog Day" forecast, we can come up with a "Wxman 57 Discomfort index." You know, the more uncomfortable he gets, the more he posts "It isn't going to get cold!"

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
I'll gladly report on possible snow across Texas if I see any real chance of it. And by chance I mean something other than the 384-hr GFS panel that shows widespread snow in Texas. I'd like to see snow in Houston. It's not going to happen this year, though. 90s for highs in March? I like it!
In other news, the EC seasonal outlook is indicating another very quite Atlantic hurricane season. Plenty of dry air and high pressure once again, along with a weak El Nino. If this keeps up we won't need any hurricane forecasters any more. I'll have to find a new line of work...

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
Took a look at the 06Z GFS and plotted a couple of meteograms (Dallas-Ft. Worth & Houston). I'm not seeing anything exciting as far as cold & snow or warm weather (for me). I do like that upper 70s for Houston next Tuesday, though the warmth is quite short-lived. Kind of cold this coming weekend, too.

Last year was an eventful year in terms of potential. This year, not so much.
But there's still the rest of February and a good portion of March to see how high the page count will go. I bet we'll have something to talk about in Texas by March 20th.

If Joe is right, then the trend is in the right direction at least...
"@BigJoeBastardi: Snow cover will expand its reach into the mid atlantic later this week spread back into the plains next week."

12Z GFS has some light snow into northern Arkansas on the 19th. Light freeze for Dallas area Sunday. Don't get too excited up there...
