Hoping for a miracle on Weds down that way. Euro had a run yesterday (or the day before?) that showed snow down to AUS. It was only one but maybe just maybe...Need that low to track south, deepen, go negative tilt and we can get everybody.

He needs start playing hard to get. Mother Nature only wants what she can't have. Right now, Porta is that ex-boyfriend who is still madly in love with her. Showing up at her doorstep every night with Russell Stover Chocolates and flowers.

By the way this is all driven so far by the -EPO. It's in the 3 sigma below normal range, PNA is falling and will be predominantly negative the next week or two. AO is still raging positive.

Western Canada never got that cold but the HP from the EPO wanted it cold so it got cold anyway.

Portastorm wrote:In fact, the more I think about this the more convinced I am that's it's time to shut down the winter weather branch of the Portastorm Weather Center. The PWC has failed miserably in the last few years and done even worse in it's own area. These winter events which constantly occur in other parts of the state on a consistent basis is like waterboarding to me. I give up. Who knows, maybe my departure will somehow turn the tide.

I'll hand my mantle of leadership over to Ntxw. That's one smart weather enthusiast who consistently delivers the goods.

Time for me to take a long vacation.

The jovial mets at the PWC will not give up. These guys may not get what they want, but they love it regardless!

Saw somebody mention that the GFS got a beatdown last night, what happened? Over here from 48hrs ago to currently it has been spot on. It has gotten much colder and cloudy with no precip. And it has been showing that since Saturdays runs. Have no idea what the euro has been advertising but the short term models and NAM are the ones that got their butts handed to them this go around, at least central TX thru central LA

And congrats Portastorm, glad to see you have finally come to your senses and have quit drinking the snow cream, taken off your snowflake shaped glasses, and quit chasing the winter unicorn and rainbows.

I've been fiddling around with the composite radars during some downtime at work.
South of I-20, from the western suburbs of Houston to El Paso, the radars are blank, aside from a few speckles that might be drizzle or flurries (or false returns).

I had ice on the patio table. 32f and drizzle mist but it wasn't freezing on the car. Went to the post office around 11am and the roads were wet but no ice.

So far at least at our house, it's been yet another 33 and rain, even if it's actually 32.

Later on today might be slick in places where it's still wet if it gets to the 29 forecast.

Not holding my breath for snow on Wednesday but it sure would be nice. And it would make Portastorm happy if he got snow. He's way the heck the other side of town but maybe we'll all get some snow.

Are you suggesting that the PWC is staffed by chimpanzees?

No reason for him to be bent out of shape... south of I-20 and east of I-35 he's been having a damned fine day today.

Not at all, they are staffed with guys that aren't going to get down, no matter how grim the situation is.

Overall I'd say DFW and most of North Texas handled this ice storm pretty well. Much better than the past. The salt/brine solution has done a good job on the major highways and the plows have really helped. Also FW had this warned and on top of the game since Friday, plenty of ample time and the schools closed down well before.
