I can honestly say I'm proud of the NHC for owning up to a forecast. They are the experts and must believe that is the most likely outcome. I was expecting another "punt" of a track but I guess the "GFS and friends" consensus is just too strong to not pull the trigger.

Also, EXCELLENT discussion!

That discussion was quite disconcerting. I can sense a lot of sweating going on in Coral Gables.

the NHC is actually located in western Miami-Dade, in the FIU campus ... they moved out of Coral Gables after Andrew in 1992

Incorrect, the size of the cone is always the same over time..it's a percentage..they went against the Euro fully

And they almost have to, because if they don't and it hits the US, they're screwed.

How is this still good news though? To be honest if I were to live in Florida and see Joaquin choo-chooing towards the south and west, I'd be pretty worried until it reaches 30N. :(

But kudos to them for explaining things as well as they did and for the addition of the numbered summary points at the bottom. It leaves most of the conjecture that can be made from a nebulous discussion out and lays out their thoughts in terms that laymen can understand!
As for Coral Gables, getting away from UM is a good idea!

You just have to believe it. Here in Hawaii we've had 4 close calls this season and despite the storms sometimes passing within 100 miles away from us, there was no concern.

I'm not as concerned as Outer Banks or possibly NJ residents should be. Until this thing starts its NW/Northern turn, everyone from NC to MA should stay fixated on the weather news.

I think Joaquin will pull a Floyd of 1999 when it made that sharp right turn,we do always seem to luck out storm wise here in Florida.Hanna in 2008 was suppose to make that north turn and kept on moving SW and brought us some unexpected squalls.
