Rainfall totals are really starting to pile-up in SE Texas now. Storm totals are approaching 7" across a wide swath of western Montgomery County now - with a lot more to come overnight. It looks like what was originally forecast last night is happening tonight.

6Z GFS says "never mind" about the cold air around March 20th. A little below normal (low 50s for lows) but that's it. Winter remains cancelled...

I measured 3.32" at my home in southwest Houston as of 5am, but another heavy storm is hitting SW Houston now. NW parts of the county got up to 7 inches as of 5am.

My alarm clock played a dirty trick on me this morning - it set itself ahead 1 hr for Daylight Savings Time. I didn't realize it until I was nearly at the office and my car clock said 5:50am. It WAS darker than normal on my drive, and the traffic was lighter. Oh well.

Several times during the previous night I did hear short bursts of what sounded like Morse Code emanating from my clock. It woke me up, but not enough to investigate further. Sounded like a code I used to hear on my shortwave radio when listening to the atomic clock signal (.. .-.. ..-. . which translates to ILFE, though I have no idea what that means).

Maybe it was in bursts of Prime numbers for you to build a space portal to a planet with consistent temps below 50F.

This AfternoonShowers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Umm...no. Stiff NE winds today.

Now they are talking about rain for DFW on Sunday morning... not happy. :( Doing my first triathlon on Sunday and I don't like riding in the rain.

Ha! I did my first biathlon (5K run / 30K bike / 5K run) in June of 1989 - the day TS Chantal made landfall here. There were inches of water in the street. As for DFW - with the upper low winding down across NE TX there may be a few showers (light sprinkles) around that day. I think there's a good chance that the streets will be dry. Careful on the turns and on the painted stripes.

There's currently a low pressure center just offshore Galveston, which is responsible for the NE winds. The EC is forecasting the low to move northward right across Houston this evening, shifting our winds around to the SE. However, the low may be a little east of the EC's estimate, so the winds may stay northerly. Close call.

From the FWD AFD

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 409 AM CST THU MAR 10 2016/
THE LARGE UPPER LEVEL LOW MADE IT TO THE TROPIC OF CANCER AND WAS
RESPONSIBLE FOR HEAVY SNOW IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF MEXICO
YESTERDAY. WE CANT STRESS HOW UNUSUAL THE TRACK OF THIS SYSTEM
HAS BEEN...ESPECIALLY FOR MARCH...EVEN IF THE SENSIBLE WEATHER
HERE IN TEXAS IS NOT ALL THAT UNUSUAL. HOWEVER ONCE YOU LOOK
CLOSELY AT THE WEATHER DATA SOME VERY UNUSUAL THINGS ARE GOING TO
OCCUR...SUCH AS AN OCCLUDED FRONT FORECAST TO TRACK THROUGH THE
REGION AND A 100 KT UPPER JET STREAM BLOWING FROM SOUTHEAST TO
NORTHWEST OVER EAST TEXAS ON FRIDAY. THE MODEL GUIDANCE IS
GENERALLY IN GOOD AGREEMENT ON THE TRACK OF THE UPPER LEVEL LOW
WHICH WILL BEGIN TO HEAD NORTH LATER TODAY AND CROSS THE TEXAS
BORDER BY FRIDAY MORNING. HOWEVER THE MODELS ARE STRUGGLING WITH
THE LOW LEVEL FEATURES WITH A WIDE VARIANCE OF SOLUTIONS THAT WILL
DICTATE CONVECTIVE TIMING...FRONTAL POSITION...TEMPS...WINDS...AND
SEVERE POTENTIAL.

Mexico gets snow, we don't. The Winter that wasn't.
