If I'm not mistaken, all of Orange County had been put under a Tropical Storm Watch last night. Don't know if that's changed today. This usually means topical storm force winds (can be up to 73 mph) are possible. Use that as your gauge. I, personally, would probably wait another few hours to see if they upgrade that to Hurricane Watch, and then board up if I was worried about debris, etc. coming too close, or flying into the windows.

It really depends on whether this thing goes more due west, or more north, or stays northwest, and could possibly come on land close to you and you'll feel more severe winds then.

Just received this alert. I'm in Orange County.

I would stay.

Well I respect what you are thinking. I live not too far away from Oceanway area . I am just worried about trees and flying debris in my region, other than power outage. My poeer went out in Julia a few weeks ago. Living out near the Intracoasta, l there are a bit more concerns that I am dealing with.

But to each their own. I pray whatever he fecides will be the best decision for him and is family.

Yep, a lot to consider.
1) Structure sturdiness.
2) Old trees around
3) Availability of safer alternatives.
4) Living with out power for days.

It is an impressive storm. I don't see how this is not a strong category 4 as it approaches the coast.

Wish me luck guys.

You are all my people and I know many of you are in for a long several days.

Welcome to West Palm! This is where i live. I'm lucky to have front row tickets. Good luck in your travels and stay safe!

Um, you are anything but lucky buddy, lol.

Haha, yea you're right. Most people wouldn't consider themselves lucky, but I don't have to do any chasing to see this storm up close and personal. :) And I think the term "buddy" mostly applies to men. I am a young lady, thank you very much!

I watched the Weatherbell daily summary today. They nudged their track a little west yesterday and say the coast from Space Coast (so roughly Melbourne/Cocoa I suppose) to Charleston should expect hurricane force winds (don't remember if they went sustained or just gusts). Also, he showed the GFS precipitation map which was just along the coast. He said the European has much more rain along the coast on the west side, but they don't believe it will make its way too far inland. They also didn't see North Carolina as that big of a deal. They also felt like it would be a good 12-24 hours to recover from Cuba.

I think their ideas are reasonable. I think the immediate GA, SC and NE FL coasts have the most to fear from round 1. I don't know how long it takes to get stacked up though. Recon showed that earlier deepening, and it could get a lot stronger as it pulls away from all but smaller island influences. Jittery days ahead. And we should hit 100 ACE today, so 2016 will be Keeping it 100.

Storm surge projections are calling for now for 3-6 feet with the eyewall approach on Friday. , which includes the Intracoastal Waterway.

On the latest satellite loops it appears the north part of the storm is getting a little flat. Could that be high pressure pushing down on it.

Worst case would be the storm paralleling the coast with part of the eyewall on land, which is basically what models/NHC is close to showing.

Also in addition to any damage that may occur to your house or property, The fact that you will most likely lose power...and not for just a day, but possibly a week, or even two. I've been through plenty of storms here on the gulfcoast...and trust me, the loss of power for 2 weeks was horrid. I"d tell him to come to Tallahassee...if the storm misses his area, then you've had a nice visit...if it hits his area dead on, he will be thankful he came to visit you.

NHC shows a cone--with left and right extremes. Wish it were just up the middle, but its not.

question, will the interaction with those small islands on the was NW effect the intensity?

5 AM NHC forecast for #Matthew was for 22.3 & 75.3 by 2 PM. At 11 AM actual position 21.8 & 75.2. Crucial to watch short term west tendency.

I am frankly shocked that the NHC has not issued a Hurricane Warning for Miami-Dade County. It's more than just semantics, as thousands of businesses will actually remain open under a Tropical Storm Warning, but close for a Hurricane Warning.

With the southern part of the OBX getting the worst of the winds as it scoots up the coast.
