0015 UTC satellite frame shows a storm getting its act together again. Anyone else agree? Convection burst around the center and a warming eye.

mourninbrew wrote:To whoever posted that Florida Power and light were expecting over 2.5 million out. That's incorrect, they are prepared for 25% of their customer base. Roughly 1.2 million people. There are several thousand crews down here already, and more coming from all over the country. I've never seen preparations this big for a storm as far as my work. They are trying to take care of your guys as best as possible! Cheers

I saw the interview with the rep from FPL he did say they were expecting 2.5 mill outages.

With all due respect, please knock it off. The storm isn't even close to bringing its worst impacts yet.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

PEOPLE,

please stop responding to trolls, just report and move on. We have fancy buttons to take care of them. Thanks.

It just makes it harder if multiple posts have to be moved.

Very possible. Just letting ya know what I've been briefed on. And 2.5 million would blow anything I've been on out of the water. I think sandy was 750,000 at peak. And it was absolutely insane!!!

As of 35 minutes ago, Broward Local NBC station discontinued non-stop coverage of Matthew as well. Good luck WPB lets see what that band has in store.

That could be what they're prepared for, even if the actual number is lower--as with anything it's better to be over-prepared than under.

Exactly. In fact, a meteorologist on the weather channel about 45 minutes ago implied that it's actually strengthening and the decrease in winds is simply because of Matthew spreading its wind radius over a larger area. So it could be even worse for Florida.

wxsouth wrote:Average motion over past 6 hours is about 325 deg. That heading, if maintained, would bring the center inland near Cape Canaveral. While it is still possible that the center misses land, it is by no means certain, and even a track a few miles offshore will still have huge impacts on east-central and northeast Florida.

The 'It's gonna miss'' crowd needs to chill.

Absolutely, my friend. :)
But the "it's probably gonna miss" crowd, and I mean those with credentials to say that, needs to give hope to those who are being terrified by the manic media. There are very god signs that this will likely miss most or all of the coast. So people who are hunkered down can stay in place until the all clear but have a little more hope that their home will be there when they go back.

Where are these height datas from? I do not see anywhere showing 591 heights at Newport.

Sorry, it was at 18z not at 0z, I do not see that they have a 0z sounding yet.

I would just like to take a second to thank the Mods on this site.... there have been a few occasions this evening where some stupid posts have been written.
These kind of posts are not needed, and all they serve to do is misinform and annoyed people at a time when the right information is key.
The Mods have swiftly stepped in and deleted the posts to save an all out row erupting.

It must be so difficult to monitor and control this site daily but even more so at the busiest times like this.... You guys are doing an amazing job :D :D

I think the NHC in the future has to be more careful when. Issuing Hurricane and Tropical storm warnings. The NHC issues a hurricane warning for broward county and issues a tropical storm warning for dade county and closes schools on Friday for no reason at all. Just an opinion not forecast.

I completely agree. Just wanted to let people know that they are prepared. Losing power is a huge deal. I've been to a few of these treks to the east coast. And this is the most on top of their game I've seen it. I'm in Gainesville at the moment, and no idea what to expect. We rolled east on Tuesday.
