ncweatherwizard wrote:Doppler velocities in the NW part of the outer eyewall are about 125-130kts based on Melbourne radar about 80 km away. Even with a 20% reduction, that would mean Category 3 winds near the surface in part of the storm that will likely reach land. Looks like aircraft is going to head right to it. Let's see if they find the same.
Hoping that does not transpose to surface, about to find out. Still thankfully, only tropical storm force gusts.

How far do you think the bands on the north and west side will rotate around?

Might just be the radar but sure looks like the heaviest convection on the the N and NW sides and will be moving into a good party of the coast fairly soon. Seems like with the inner eye redeveloping that this is maintaining it's intensity as well.

Is that a brand new and intensifying small eye again?

HH aircraft should have just gone through eye on a SE-to-NW pass ... be interesting to see what they report for eyewall(s) this time.

Already opening up again. Also looks like it may have given the outer eyewall another "wobble" to the west

I have a feeling we could all go to bed and sleep for 6 hours, get up and have not missed a thing...Matt will still be swirling off the coastline.

Could be debris that cycles out on next replacement surge.

I feel the same way, this hurricane avoids land like Bill avoids Hillary. IMO that's a good thing, go east ......

What's up Alyono? Thoughts on smaller eye becoming apparent on radar again?

no inner core nearly gone.. it was like a last gasp attempt.. just not enough time to deepen.. probably come in at current strength.
