Could be a very costly choice of Matt to land there..

The western eyewall is approaching the Cape right now. The recent wobble may have the full eye get closer to the Cape or come over it. It is going to be a real close call there.

This is turning to the north-northwest now. 50/50 if the cape gets the eyewall at all now

Yeah it will be close. They are definitely getting or about to get the worst of the western eyewall for sure.

Northward jog is from that deeper convection that flared up in Matthew's eastern eyewall. That convection is now at the peak of Matthew's eyewall and will be rotating westward shortly, tugging it west again. That forthcoming westward wobble might be just enough to tug the eyewall over the Cape.

Interesting note, the inner eye is bordering rediculous now. What is it with Atlantic storms undergoing an ERC and the inner eye just not wanting to die? I remember Wilma had issues as well, and several other strong storms since then, too.

System down?

I think they dropped that URL and went to weather.gov

Too many users trying to access it I suspect.

Yeah a server can only handle so much...since ive evachatec been trying minimize my usage of the site so that someone else in need riding this thing out can get the info they need!

Just direct link to intermediate update & note postion details etc

BTW still direct line 50 SE miles of Cape Canaveral with winds down to 120! This might be saving grace as the area directly north of Cape Canaveral - which is that part which juts out - is an uninhabited undeveloped stretch of about 30 miles of national seashore

Of course not looking so good for the next town north, New Smyrna beach, which is where I currently reside - thank GOD my wife was encouraging on evaluating & we did!!!!

Smithtim, if you go to hurricanetrack.com, there are links to 2 unmanned cameras (livestream) Mark Sudduth set out at New Smyrna. If you didn't know already.

Yep...if it does miss offical landfall do you think it'll get enough land interaction friction the deintensify ( if that's a word LOL ) or since that Canaveral Seashore is so low evaluation maybe not much effect???

No problem! The Pelican one (link 1) is howling pretty eerily. The sun will be up in a couple hours, right now the cameras are dark, but the sound is pretty wicked

5am public advisory
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT4+shtml/070853.shtml

Quick question it says Matthew is 10 miles from the coast, then says the huricane force winds extend 60 miles....is the measured distance from the center of the eye and if it is that would mean huricane force winds 50 miles inland, is this correct?

I remember the sound of the wind being the most intense part of any footage from Ike. It sounded like ghosts blowing party whistles.

Wftv posted a video on Facebook showing the water already cresting over the wall at the intracoastal about 2 blocks to the east of us here in new smyrna. Surprised it's happening so soon.
