Hola all! Long time lurker. I live about 5 minutes away from Indialantic / Melbourne Beach and wanted to share with you my experience of the storm overnight. We had only (1) squall come through yesterday afternoon and it lasted a good 15 minutes. Other than that it was quiet till 1:00am. According to this tweet from the NWS station in Melbourne, the first recorded hurricane (gust) was 88mph around 4:08am.
https://mobile.twitter.com/NWSMelbourne ... 8752183296I'd imagine that there were other cat. 1 force guests before then that weren't recorded. That said, we probably only had high end tropical force sustained winds here. I took snapshots of the doplar radar and it looked like my area was just outside the bigger eye wall. We had sustained tropical storm force winds from 1:00am till 5:30am EST.
The house I was staying had zero structural or cosmetic damage to it. Not even one screen on the pool enclosure was blown out. The power flickered a few times but we never lost it. I drove around west Melbourne and Palm Bay Florida this morning and saw no structural damages to businesses or homes. Some trees were down and privacy fences down as well, but no street lights and shopping center signs blown out like when Francis and Jeanne hit.
I just wanted to say thank you to all to those who support and dedicate their time to this site. It has had invaluable information for my family and friends. I pray for those still in the line of this storm and those whom been affected.
