Tell your boss to F off, close poop down right this second and leave. This is a life threatening storm. Any business that expects it's employees to stick around in these type of conditions isn't a business worth working for. (Emergency responders excluded, obviously. )

Many airport workers DO have to prepare an airport before a storm. My hubby worked in Ft. Laud during Andrew. They had to prep before leaving. Miami airport was unfit as soon as all clear was called, and he had to go in and have FLL open so emergency personnel could get as close to the devastation as possible.

I get it, but Thetx... should get out asap.

We don't know enough details to give certain evacuation advice to people. If a person has access to a safe building away from the storm surge threat, then a late evacuation might not be the wisest decision. But there is a reason that planning like this should occur before the season.

It looks like an EWRC to me according to the latest recon pass... two wind peaks both at the surface and flight level.

Eye is clearing on infrared imagery and it is of the pinhole variety. With the current rapid pressure drop and the eye finally clearing on satellite, I believe everyone is jumping the gun on the EWRC. We might be seeing the very early steps of an EWRC on radar, but pressure falls and satellite imagery doesn't suggest we are completely into a cycle yet.

I say this with every degree of kindness. Log off the internet and take measures to protect yourself NOW. Please stop asking random people who have no real idea of your circumstances to advise you on potential life saving measures. You have gone from knowing exactly what was going to happen with this storm to now asking if you have time to drive home from work?!? Come on! Call someone, a friend or family member and ask THEM these questions. Seriously, either this is bait or nuts. Best of luck to all in the path, Godspeed. Sorry mods, I'm coming unglued here. #KatrinaPTSD

you can see the double wind maximum very nicely on doppler velocities out of Brownsville.

Isn't it a little late in the game here?? They're already getting Tropical Storm rains and winds soon. Wow.

Return to the topic of Harvey. Advice has been given. Any other discussion of that topic will lead to deleted posts. Let it be an example of why you plan before the season.

Latest recon data had global max winds in outer peak... We're well into an EWRC IMO. Radar and recon both support.

Yesterday they were encouraging them to evacuate-
The press conference was held at 1:00 pm Thursday afternoon.

Corpus Christi Mayor Joe McComb says that the city is at the threshold of a mandatory evacuation. He is encouraging people to evacuate. Joe McComb said, "If you plan to evacuate, do it now."

It's a Catch 22 for them.

Say "Leave!" too early and the storm veers off track, people get disillusioned and quit listening to the "experts."
Say wait, and if it gets really bad quickly people will be trapped and some will be injured.

I don't envy them trying to time it out correctly.

Well if it is an EWRC thats not good news since that will greatly expand the wind field and this has plenty of time over water to complete it and continue to intensify. The pressure is consistently dropping though. One would expect a slight rise with an EWRC
