Harvey is now basically a repeat of Celia, but a little stronger

About to be the strongest US landfalling hurricane since Charley of 2004.

Wait, WHAT?!

Guess my comparisons to 1900 and Carla weren't entirely out of whack...

as long as the eyewall is offsure it can maintain.. upwelling is the only thing that would weaken it right now.

It is in 120 feet of water ---- will that have a noticeable upwelling effect?

The water temp at 120 feet is pretty much uniform from surface to 120 ft. So no upwelling of cooler temps there

Looks like Port Aransas is ground zero. Eye center is 24 miles from there - eyewall about 10 miles.

Amazing visible satellite images with the sun setting showing the stadium eye and seeing some massive hot towers firing off on the SW eyewall.

No upwelling but it cools the water temps. I'm really not sure how long it would have to be stationary to make a difference.

Had to pause for a minute when I realized that we are witnessing history, I have never seen a hurricane approach the U.S. coast with a presentation like this, and I hope that I will never see one again.

Man, bet Josh (iCyclone) couldn't fathom being ground zero for a cat 4 when he went down there to chase a TD/TS! He's right in the crosshairs of a monster. Eyewall presentation is spectacular. Can't believe how much it's strengthened even as it nears the coast.

Ring of lightning now appearing in the eyewall indicating the rapid intensification of the storm center as it approaches land.
