I love rain more than anyone, but how much rain has already fallen here in Houston, plus how much more is forecast is just rediculous. I can't believe how historic this rainfall event will be.

Axe, hatchet or mallet is critical if you don't have the leg strength to kick out roofing boards. That's mandatory to bring up along with water. They taught us here based on residents of St. Bernard Parish in Betsy 1965 where they found claw marks in ceilings and people drowned in attics.

Okay guys. I really don't have any expertise and having a really hard time parsing the raw data I'm seeing and the obvious incredible amount of rainfall that is falling to the west of me in Houston. The most recent model runs are shifting east and showing a renewed possibility for some, at the very least maintaining of those early precipitation estimatates that were so large, if not strengthing. I'm in Beaumont and live in a home that has never flooded, to my knowledge. Although I live at the end of a dead end road and all the water drains to my driveway. Trying to figure out just how worried we need to be here. Obviously I know we're not looking at anything like what Houston will get, but any thoughts on what we could possibly expect.

We are getting a little bit of a break for the moment in my area--just northwest of downtown Houston. Still raining, but only lightly. I hope that lets things drain a bit. That band developing to the west is scaring me.

The last updated forecast I saw for Harvey still had it going southeast a bit, kind of retracing its track, then looping north toward Sealy and then north from there. Is that still the track?

I can't answer your question because I'm not a hydrologist and I would need access to a lot of data to analyze your personal risk. You should be aware that there will be houses that have never flooded before that will experience flooding. You should be prepared to flee to higher ground including having some tool to cut through your attic to reach your roof if possible.

Impossible to say what happens exactly where you are. Make sure you have a way out - pirogue, flat boat or whatever. TWC came on with an interview in the background stating water was getting into thousands of homes. I heard it but it wasn't part of the official broadcast so if it was a troll on the operator of the station or someone behind the scenes, I can't say. That's what they broadcast though.

ABC13 meteorologist team just said that they have never seen anything like this.

With 2 new bands coming into the Houston metro, and the existing band still holding strong, this truly is unprecedented.

I'm not sure how else the threat could have been communicated. No one should have been on the road tonight, but that's impossible to make happen in a modern metropolis.

It's been training here for hours. The same thing happened earlier today for many hours, then we had a brief break. I drove through minor flooded streets about 3pm, but we have gotten so much rain since then. We're in a Flood Warning, Flash Flood Warning, Tornado Watch and more. It's raining heavily, with a lot of thunder and lightning. I'm surprised we still have power, but I have a flashlight in my pocket. I'm in the Golden Triangle area.

I'm watching Channel 11 (Houston CBS affiliate) online and Brooks Garner said the official statement from (I think) NWS was that this was a "catastrophic flooding event." He was really uncomfortable using the word "catastrophic", but said it was the official announcement. Said in his entire career he's never seen anything like it.

Have the storm expanded in size the last couple of hours? When I went to sleep like 9 hours ago the outer bands was just reaching out from the coast I think, on rader it looks likes more of the outer bands are over the water now even if the center have moved a bit inland or stalled at the same place.

Tough situation but things still happen like medical emergencies and then the situation itself could mean people have to evacuate for flooding or to get to safety from the numerous tornado warnings. The tornado warnings alone are enough to keep people having to repeatedly leave if in mobile homes.

Looks like the middle band is setting up for Houston. It's a skinny band but violent.
