NY's urban water rescue team is already activated from what I'm seeing on Twitter:

This could very well be in the top 3 for costliest hurricanes ever to hit the US, and all because of the Houston area flooding.

That is TF-1, a jointly-run NYPD/NYFD force. TF-2 is a FEMA team based out of Albany. One of the members of my FD also volunteers with them. I forgot, however, that TF-2 only operates inside NY itself. So, good call.

If there is any bright spot it's that much of the heavier bands have moved a bit East of Houston now.

Post from the 10:55am update from Hou NWS. Sobering...

As for the forecast update,
current thinking is that there should be a break in this morning`s
activity. Additional development is anticipated this evening and
overnight by almost every model, and this batch of storms could be
the next round of very heavy rainfall. If these storms move into
or develop across already flooded areas, Harvey`s epic catastrophic
flood event will only get worse. With the slow movement of Harvey
anticipated over the next several days, additional rainfall amounts
of 15 to 25 inches are expected through Friday. Any rainfall amounts
this high will lead to more catastrophic and life-threatening flooding.
Unfortunately, this event is no where close from being over. 42

I know some folks with a few feet in first floor in Houston. the crazy thing here is that it's an atypical flash flood. If you have water and you are in the second floor it seems probable you will be living there for some days. They are telling folks not to leave and to go to roof if it gets dangerous, if models are right and this goes on till Wednesday it's going to be a very long event for some people. I suppose if it drains a bit some folks could get out and try to get to high ground not that there is much of that in Houston, and being that cars and roads are flooded that seems unlikely.

I'm afraid Houston gets another 15 or 20 inches of rainfall in the next few days...It could end up being #1 in that catagory. :(

Anyone on here have a Twitter list you're using to follow reputable sources for Harvey?

I'm following #HouWx, and keeping an eye on the Houston Chronicle live updates and also NWS Houston, of course, but if anyone knows of a single twitter list that includes key sources, I'd love to be able to follow it.

Yeah there isn't many places they can go and with many roads and highways reporting flooding there are few options for them other then stay put on high floors until rescue comes. With so many calls for rescue it will take time more than likely.

Michael Lowry....
To reiterate, if the forecast verifies this would rival an all-time U.S. storm total rainfall record.

Former head of Katrina search and rescue General Honore on fox news right now. Saying they should be ordering evacuations for surrounding areas who aren't flooded today...because tomorrow will be worse than today, and the flooding will encompass even more area surrounding the area that is flooded today.

An hour ago Galveston County requested all who own flat bottom boats who could make it safely to Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque, TX to please help out with the rescue effort. They are overwhelmed. Find more info on the FB page. https://www.facebook.com/GalvestonCountytx/

This is crazy....

and its inching its way towards the coast.... if this gets as far offshore as some of the model ( and gfs members) even the Euro... then really really not good..

92L looks to be developing quickly. Could be playing into this quicker movement towards the coast line

The southeast ward drift is catastrophic. It's keeping Houston in the SE flow instead of into the drier air wrapping around the south side of Harvey.
