Best wishes to all of you affected by Maria. Maria emerged after its transit of Puerto Rico with its core intact it appears. Should intensify till it reaches the sear zone....MGC

Look at the IR floater, the eye is off Puerto Rico but they are getting absolutely hammered with convective outbursts right now on the trailing side of the storm, a good portion of the island is under a huge gray (highest level) blob.

Hopefully, the Turks & Caicos get just the southwest, weaker side of Maria. We can listen live here: https://tunein.com/radio/Power-925-FM-s89490/

Looks like another ERC. Double wind max clearly noted. Outer eyewall is quite large. Pressure field is super broad now. As a result max winds look to be barely category 2 intensity.

Heard TWC saying that gust at San Juan airport was reported at 95 mph. Is that it or did the gauge break or we just not getting info anymore? I would have thought higher given the proximity to eye wall, obviously it's moot given the fact that flooding is devastating and damage looks bad anyway...

I haven't been able to contact my dad or the rest of my family. There isn't much news coming out of there little town (Aguirre, Salinas). I have found one article and it wasn't very good news. So all the family that is here in the CONUS is praying to hear something soon from PR.

I hope that I am doing this right with this link, this interview with the mayor of San Juan is heartbreaking. I have seen it 3 times and tears just come down my face. Us Puerto Ricans are stubborn and strong, we got this.

My guess is it's just the power outage preventing him from commenting. Could be a while before we hear from him.

Things are generally quite dire in much of the northeast Caribbean, due to Maria and Irma. We finally got word from a friend in Virgin Gorda, yesterday. He's okay, but he said that it's really a mess there, with most people surviving on just snacks, as many have no gas supply with which to cook. However, on a bright note, he said that everyone on the island have pulled together and are helping each other, sharing what little they have. And there's zero looting.

That TWC report has to be when before the anemometer broke as Maria passed . When the eye wall passed through San Juan earlier today I saw Recon was reporting reporting wind gusts of up to 130 miles an hour over the city.
