Glad to see that the GFS is sticking with ridiculous run-to-run changes....

Winter time post are almost exclusively focused on the DFW area.

The Norman office has added snow to the forecast for Friday night for parts of North TX. Also, the forecasted temps have dropped slightly.

I'm convinced after watching the idiocy of the GFS over the last week that on Jan 4, 2018 it will show a Cat 5 in the gulf.

Not sure where in the world the cynicism is coming from, N TX has a good shot a wintery precip late Friday into Saturday. The models are having trouble with getting the cold air through, but you always bet on dense cold air outpreforming the models in its push SE. Also this year bet on the SW low to dig further south and be stronger than modeled. The further south track of the SW low will pull deeper cold further south into northern TX.

Ok, guys, I managed to schedule another Arctic front around New Year's. It gets pretty cold across Texas after all the snow ends. Seriously, I think some cold-mongerer has hacked the GFS...

I am again becoming somewhat concerned about a significant winter precip event for northern Texas late Friday. I hope that the low pushes south so that DFW will be more in the snow than the ice side. Now temps could hold in the mid 30s and prevent icing and just transition to snow once the upper low gets overhead and brings 850 temps down.

Are any models predicting a quicker push of cold air for Friday? If the precip holds off until later in the day, and we get a quicker push of cold air, wouldn't our chances to see some wintry precip be better? I know there is more to it, like the track of the low, etc.

Yeah seems the real cold stuff is always 10 days out or beyond on the GFS. Looks like the model has gone even warmer for the early next week front but much colder in the super long-range.

The trend on the NAM certainly looks good for a surprise winter storm. i'm thinking we get a cold rain at first, and then transition to snow.

The Canadian is the strongest and furthest south of the models. It is a tad warm on the latest run for a big event, but it still shows significant snow right under the low center as it tracks through on Saturday.

Yep, looks like we are trending towards another big Canadian win.

You're going to have to work overtime to get that to verify!
