Jan 12-13th Storm is still there on both GFS and GEM. Still too far out for specifics on all rain or frozen precip but a good trend nonetheless

It's pretty dry in the lower few thousand feet. Any snow falling may not make it to the ground.

Not enough moisture that far north, I'm afraid.
Is Austin in the same boat of being too far north?
I would say yes, especially considering that our dew points are currently in the mid teens. Just too dry for us.
Was happy to see our friends in SE Texas get some sleet this morning and hope they can cash in on a dusting of snow tonight. Next, we have to get North Texas in on the action. Then we can say it's been a real winter for all of us!

A dusting would be nice! Would love to see 2-3" though lol!

Orangeblood, do you think there will be a reinforcing shot of cold air in that timeframe where the gfs and cmc indicate a storm system? Euro eps indicated it I believe but I wasn't sure.

Light snow per USAF at KGRK. Some minor accumulations reported

Yes, GFS and Euro ENS seem to be honing in on another cold shot as the Pacific system crosses the southern plains during that time frame.

HRRR shows flurries scattered across N and E TX as well as points south today. That dang 850mb dry nose limiting things.

By on board we mean a sprinkle on the windshield
The fact its showing something gets me convinced that its possible. It should keep trending towards more moisture.

The jet stream will provide incredibly strong lift to generate precip.

Too far away from the moisture source (Gulf). Focus for any light precip this evening will be SE TX.
57 - Can you get it up here to Tomball at least!

Question if you don't mind - what are the values under precipitation type?

Haven't seen any flurries thus far today but another hot day in NTX. DFW 27F as of 1pm nearly shorts weather. Been below freezing since Sunday morning early
The last time it was 50F or more was December 23rd...

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018

Happy New year!!
Despite the smaller snowflakes NYE night, got briefly heavy for a couple of min. Driving into DT, the skyline was shrowded due to the snowfall. Here's a pic I snapped on Congress Avenue after it ended. The sidewalks were wet and I was a little concerned about a little ice developing but the air became so dry that it evaporated by midnight so no issues heading home. Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's Day.

I think you might see some flakes up there. Don't expect anything like we saw early in December. Moisture will be very limited with this event. HRRR does have a band of 1/2" to 1" accumulations running north-south right through Harris County.

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
12Z Euro continues the promising trend of the potential for the first MAJOR winter storm for the southern plains Jan. 12-13th...looking at the 500mb pattern and the origin of the air accompanying the Arctic HP headed into Northern US, this system should trend further south on the models with time - The Euro shows the Arctic HP getting scoured out as the Pacific system moves across but we all know that rarely happens. Something to definitely follow over the coming week
