Re: ATL: FLORENCE - Tropical Storm - Discussion
I'll just say this: EVERYONE in hurricane prone areas in the Western Hemisphere should use this weekend to think about plans and prepare. There are 8 systems out there, and even if the supplies and plans don't get used now, consider us prepared for the future.

Does anyone know what the worst case landfall spot would be for Georgia and the Carolinas.
I'd say either Kiawah Island or between Brunswick and Savannah.

Here in Florida, we've had to put our plans into actions for two years straight. I still have gas in the generator from last time.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Re: ATL: FLORENCE - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Usually when it comes to Hurricanes, I tend to downplay how it will pan out, especially if there is an assortment of different scenarios due to sheer, land interaction, water temperatures, etc. But this one has me really on my toes. I can't remember the last time I saw a hurricane that was so blatantly expected to drive west and strengthen as it does so. There is hardly anything at all to keep it from doing this. The waters are at peak warmth, the ridge is insanely strong-- actually record setting and it sets up right in the MA area, and the sheer is projected to move out...not move in or even play a part by the time it gets closer to the US. It is possible that the system behind her may effect the ridge, either driving her out or up...but that is almost grasping at straws.

You know that leaving gas in your generator for long periods isnt good for your generator...it goes bad

Add a fuel stabilizer and run for, what, 10 minutes every 6 months?

yeah anywhere along Georiga and northern florida from St augustine north to Charleston have never had a major hurricane landfall. homes build prior to the 2000's ( the majority) are 50 to 100 plus years old in some cases. Savannah itself besides some of the modern updates are all 200 years old. no good.

No fuel stabilizer, but I tested it in June once the season started. Worked fine!

Hopefully, 94L will affect the ridge and the recon data on the ridge will provide a way north and out for Florence, and the models then start trending north and east.

I completely forgot about that. I forgot they haven't really been impacted by a major hurricane since Hugo in 1989. Infact most of the east coast has been pretty lucky the past 2 decades in terms of category 3 or higher storms.

I was always told to drain it or just let it run out...I think I have used mine a grand total of once in 5 years (and that was for a parade float

The last major hurricane to hit the state of Georgia directly was in 1898. Not a person alive who was around when it happened.

The coast from Vero Beach to Hilton Head Island has not had a major hurricane in 120 years. There is no record of a major hitting NE Florida (Matthew came close but the core stayed offshore), and the last to hit Georgia was in 1898. But it won't need a major to cause big problems.

I think the most damage would be if it came in just south of Charleston. Hell it floods there when it rains hard...a big storm surge would really be bad there

So basically everyone from Greenland to Panama need to keep an eye on the Atlantic Basin, anything can happen. Also can't forget about Great Britain.

It is easily seen here in the loop. speed it up with the arrow next to the play button click it few times so it goes fairly fast. pay attention the exposed portion on the LLC.. you can see it quickly dropping wsw heading towards 24N fairly quick.
