There's a pretty solid concrete hotel structure up the road from him in Mexico Beach...I don't think he would have made it because all hell was breaking loose by the time they bailed...But the land does rise 10 feet behind that house they found...

His wife also said he's OK according to the last time they talked.

Who was the guy on the cell phone that told him to go back to Mexico Beach from Port ST. Joe?
I've been watching Adair the whole morning.
I knew that was a grave error and shouted at the screen...NO!
It was unbelievable how quickly that surge came in.
This should be required viewing for all those who say they are gonna
"ride it out"
I'm sick to my stomach.
Praying for Adair and his friend.
I know this topic has gone on for pages, but since I posted the original link here hours ago (and listened to the end), maybe this will answer the questions and end it.
1. Brett is part of the Live Storm Chasing Team and they had chaser trucks stretched from PCB to Pt St Joe.
2. Brett was the furthest east in PSJ, but the coordinator asked him to come up to Mex Beach. You could tell he wasn't sure about and asked a few questions about conditions especially surge.
3. They finally agreed to head to MB, but stopped to check out conditions in a neighborhood halfway.
4. The coordinator called again and sounded a bit upset because they weren't at MB yet.
5. They weren't in MB for more than 10 minutes before the surge started. His partner (passenger) panicked and opened the door to jump out. Brett yelled at him not to go and told him "worst thing you can do", but he went anyway.
6. Never did hear Brett actually leave the truck, but assume he did since there was no human sound inside the truck after that.
7. I am quite sure the footage is in a data cloud somewhere.
Hoping for the best.

i don't see any signs of it weakening....at all...since inland. Can someone verify that? are cities 30 miles inland going to get pretty much cat 5 weather just like the coast?

Re: ATL: MICHAEL - Hurricane - Discussion

Interaction with the front must have been absolutely perfect to enhance poleward outflow and minimize shear since at least early this morning, probably longer.

Impossible to know if they are OK, and still getting pummeled by wind and surge
A whole house was ripped apart in #Mexico Beach, #Florida. Here is video of parts of the home washing up to other properties. This is one powerful storm. #HurricaneMichael. (via Talarico Tessa) #Hurricane #mexicobeach

Dropped over shallow water so not accurate IMO, but may be enough evidence to support it.

Eye looks as intact as it was over water.

I would like to know lol. We’re 86 miles N of PCB roughly. We have a huge branch that came through our pool cage at 10 am CST. Lost internet and cable at noon. We know it’s gojng to get a lot worse later for us. Looking at some pretty crazy winds.

Re: ATL: MICHAEL - Hurricane - Discussion
Wow the damage even well inland is going to be significant based on how that eye looks. Andrew went over everglades, this one isn't.

This has never happened. Have to look back at Camille or maybe Katrina, but Katrina came in weaker with a HUGE windfield so I don't know if it can be a good comparison. Andrew skirted over south Florida so no real comparison there either.

It also seems this hurricane will be going through more rural areas where the building codes are not up to standards, that's something to consider as well
