Whether it hits the CONUS or not, looks like a high likelihood this could be a problem for many of the same islands that were battered by Hurricane Irma and/or Maria less than two years ago.

Something to take into consideration as well, didn’t really see this until now.

06Z GFS just about makes it a clear shot into the GOM thru the Yucatan Channel.

If it's already a well developed storm by then it certainly could be a threat. That would also mean a higher chance of it going out to sea afterwards though. If it's still weak or a wave when it passes the islands, it would have a greater chance of making landfall in the Bahamas or the CONUS. Either way, it looks like at least somebody will be affected.

Yeah, this future 96L is potentially one we will have to reallly watch, especially as we get to about the middle of next week in particular.

The tropics are heating up now folks.

It's exactly what it sounds like, a ridge that looks like a thumb print (see image below highlighted in green); amplified by the passing trough.

:uarrow: Ahh! The infamous “thumb ridge”, the one that pushed Matthew closer towards the FL coastline back in 2016.

Could be an interesting week ahead watching how things evolve with future 96L. The Euro too has the “thumb ridge” but not as noticeable, but the Euro also moves the East Coast trough out faster by day 10 allowing for what looks like some ridging to possibly build back in. Stay tuned!

Another link (which I suspect websites often pull from) is the ATCF Sector File from the Naval Meteorological Laboratory. Just a tiny text file which gives JTWC/NHC intensities for tropical cyclones and invests globally.

Looks like a circ is slowly tightening up on sat at the edge of the convection... wont take long once convection is able to build ... as soon as the sal slowly diminishes..

It can also been seen on recent ascat. Becoming more defined.

12z GFS looks to be a decent clip faster than todays 06z.
