WPAC: HAGIBIS - Post-Tropical

Re: WPAC: HAGIBIS - Typhoon
CDO immediately cooling as a response to the setting sun. Sure would be fun to have a T 8.0 evaluated at 130 knots. would be super duper accurate

Eye temp is however also cooling. ERC may be starting soon.

Re: WPAC: HAGIBIS - Typhoon
I would trade a kidney for recon into this thing.
Gonna go down as one of the most underestimated storms ever at least for now as well as a candidate for the most rapid deepening if we actually had a pressure measurement. Seems like Japan would wanna fly missions into things this threatening. No words though; beyond jaw-dropping incredible. From weak tropical storm to... this, in a single day.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

about what you'd expect out of a 100 knot storm.

And yes, I am being a bit of a sarcastic @sshole tonight. Forgive me, for I am (at least somewhat) jaded to have witnessed Hagibis explode, but have no obs to confirm anything.

Ok, all jokes aside, that is pretty dang close to being an instantaneous T 8.0

IIRC satellite estimates for Patricia exceeded T8.0 at its peak. But I'm not sure it would've been assessed as the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere. Hagibis is close but is still a notch below Patricia (at least right now).

Calls to mind Haiyan himself. Unreal. That is just absolutely terrifying.
I really think this is at minimum a top 5 RI in history for a hurricane/typhoon.

In all seriousness, I think you are right, but ADT is screwy and will rate systems differently based off the basin it's being measured in.

Re: WPAC: HAGIBIS - Typhoon
It'd be nice to know if surface winds in this are lagging behind presentation as is the case with many bombing out storms (I think Wilma took a few hours to catch up) but all that can be done is speculate; I wonder if we get a bigger more classic eye for easier satellite assessment after the pinhole collapses.
