Yeah, I was about to comment that too. Last recon winds on this side were 40-45 knots at most.

The Cameron area is a literal death sentence to chase. There is nothing there to protect you from surge or wind. There are also very, very few roads. I would not leave Sabine Pass.

Mark Sudduth put a remote camera in Cameron, and is setting one up in Holly Beach right now, but not hanging around there for it.

Brings back memories. My wife and I took our RV and stayed on Holly Beach for a few days. Drove all over the area, watching Mark drive around brings back memories. I wonder how much different the landscape will be in 48 hours.

Ah yes I see that now. Thanks! Will do just that.

I'll let you guys know when I'm on Mark's remote cam and will wave.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

Pressure down to 984. Winds have not caught up yet, but we've only had a single pass.

984.5 mb (29.08 inHg) in around center, so would guess 986.

This is a video from the Michael chasers I warned to stay in the Panama City parking garage with me. They did not listen. If they are on this forum please know I am not being critical. I understand the chase and over 14 hurricanes have become older and wiser.

They survived that out of pure luck.

Laura's satellite presentation is markedly improved since this morning. Looks like it is about to take off and deepen at a good clip.....MGC

To be fair, that was the NW-SE quadrant. The NE quad might have stronger winds.

Can I have the URL for this loop? Can't find this angle on the NOAA site.

Expect winds in the NE quadrant to be 10-20% higher than the current pass.

That would put Laura ahead of schedule from the 18Z HWRF by about 9-12 hours. (Unless I’m misreading)

They missed the center didn't they? I saw something like 27kt FL winds in the lowest pressure reading, and I would guess the extrapolated pressure would be a couple mb lower, then calibrated back up to something like 984, right?

Most likely underwater with all the buildings from Holly Beach miles inland just like Rita did.

I was just exploring Holly Beach on Google Maps street view and it looks like most things that have been built/rebuilt post Rita/Ike are on stilts and look pretty sturdy. But a monster is a monster, so we will see how they fair. That place is as vulnerable as a place can be.

I watched that as they were broadcasting live, it was incredible and scary footage! I was relieved to find out later that they had found shelter and survived, because I really thought they had perished.
If they are still hurricane hunting, I truly doubt they are working with the same dispatcher.
