Re: ATL: LAURA - Hurricane - Discussion
Sheesh.
As many of us pointed out yesterday evening, the ceiling was very high. Discounting a Cat. 4-5 because of a large eye 30 hours+ from landfall was unwise. The eye continues to contract and this is more than likely a Cat. 4 already.
The dreaded 5 is certainly a distinct possibility.
Hoping everyone got out of the path because no one in Southwest Louisiana has experienced a hurricane of this magnitude.

She has for all practical purpose has absorbed all of the available moisture that was present in the GOM at one time. It just goes to show how moisture feeds these systems as their fuel.

The convection firing off to the NW along the TX coast is wild to watch. Can someone explain to me what the driving force of this is and what that might tell us about steering?

The last two data points had the same lat/lon coordinates, resulting in a net movement of zero. I guess the algorithm that calculates the aircraft's bearing from the coordinate changes defaults to 90° when there is no movement, hence it appears as if they turned around.

Not that it matters, but what ever happened to the remnants of Marco? I know the models had it kind of lingering around the LA/TX gulf coast after it got sheered apart - but did any of it survive? A low level swirl? Is Laura in any way interacting with those remnants?
