Are you near Greg Nordstrom? I follow him on Twitter and he's in a parking garage as well in lake Charles?

I thought I heard this morning on TWC that power outages could occur as far away as Asheville.

I remember it because my sister lives there and always teases me about staying in FL in "hurricane territory."

That’s funny, my sister moved to Asheville in February and tells me no more hurricanes for her lol. She lived in Port St. Lucie most of her life. Power outages will be all across the SE states

Laura would have to stop it's northern component now to put Houston/Galveston in play. Looking like it'll shoot between Beaumont and Lake Charles.

I am in Cut Off La. which is about 30 miles north of Port Fourchon in SE La. I just had the first band come through with some very heavy rain and wind gusts approaching TS strength by my estimation. It didn't last long but I my lights blinked a couple of times so I figure to lose power at some point but between my home backup and two portable gennys I will be good LOL. I am not expecting much in my area from the storm but I sure do feel for those that are goning to be in the direct path of this monster. This is gonna be much worse than audrey in 57. I just hope most of the people evacuated. The flooding is gonna be unprecedented in the areas around lake charles. Unreal that she is still dropping pressure like a rock and still intensifying.

I do have a question though. Earlier it looked like the winds were taking awhile to catch up with the pressure drops. Is this still the case with the pressure dropping and the wind still increasing.? If that is still true then we are seeing the winds from earlier drops and more wind speed increases are coming from the more recent drop.

This is from space weather guys in Houston about 30 minutes ago:

Laura is moving northwest at 16 mph, which is blazing fast for this part of the Gulf. For folks in Houston, it's important to know that Laura is doing what is expected, and "the turn" is underway. It's not "if" or "when." It "is" happening, and thankfully in the world of 21st century meteorology we can say that with authority. We will not be hit too hard here by this storm. Laura is expected to make landfall on the Cameron Parish side of the Texas/Louisiana border as a category 4 hurricane tonight perhaps around or just before midnight.

We're going to see a lot of boats piled up well inland tomorrow. Looks like lots of waterways there that are going to get severely flooded.

Six tornado warnings on going right now. May be a significant outbreak like Isaias.

We'll only get maybe 2 more recon passes before landfall? Or will they accelerate the schedule?

For us in Houston area glade to hear this however, for those in the path prayers are going out.

After reading what Piotrowski said about chasers already trapped by the surge, I'm am concerned that some of amateur storm chasers and thrill seekers do not have a good contingency and escape plan if things go bad, especially since the surge potential has doubled in height since last night.
