I am amazed at the technology that allows us to track and observer hurricanes. I am in awe of mother nature and the power of these storms. Everyone in the affected areas of Laura are in my thoughts and prayers tonight. May you and your families ride this out in safety always remembering that things can be replaced. Thank you Storm2k. I'm going back to observing mode. It's going to be a long night in SE Louisiana.

Well, I've seen cars on roofs. You suggesting that we might actually see our first post-hurricane with an alligator on someone's roof??

I remember some lady had a gater in her livingroom post Harvey.

There was a big gator in a church on the Mississippi coast after Katrina.

That was common in past hurricanes down there, including Audrey and Camille. Alligators and water moccasins.

On roofs?? That's just plain over the top lol. When a person can't even crawl on they're own roof for a Coast Guard airlift rescue, because Fido is busy fending off water moccasins and you're having to be Indiana Jones evading two really pissed off 12' gators. #havingacrappyday

You've never read any of those news stories? People were floating in the surge trying to survive and they would grab a piece of floating roof or drywall and there would be snakes and alligators there that beat them to it. Or they would get on their own roof and when the water level reached it any number of vermin would climb onto it to avoid drowning.

wonder if that camera will be under water when Laura makes landfall

I would probably think it is a solid possibility it will be by that time.

That's one of Mark Sudduth' GoPro Cameras.

Over the last 3 hours you can clearly see the eye shrink in IR imagery

Radar is blocked by the cloud tops. Cannot see all the way through the storm at that distance.

I'm expecting the Lake Charles radar site to crash peak storm and continue to display a terrifying image of Laura's core...much like PR's radar did during Maria. This is going to be a multi generational "date" storm for the impact zone. Everyone will speak in pre and post Laura terms for a couple of generations...much like those in south florida have done for Andrew or those on the MS gulf coast and SE LA coast do for Katrina. Another random thought about hurricane season in general...this will be another massive anniversary storm that fits nicely into the anniversary storm calendar hot zone...latter August into October. We're just into the hot zone. Dr Gray is still correct..for the bell hath tolled.

Penetration result of northern eyewall coming in the next few minutes. Might be enough to get over the CAT5 threshold.
