Re: ATL: INVEST 97L - Discussion
I'm interested to see if we get any entertaining advisories for this one, like we had for Epsilon and Zeta back in 2005. NHC seems clearly done with this season after including "ugh" in a tweet earlier.

Subtropical Storm Theta.
The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season is now the most active on record.
Unreal.

Wow, 2005's record will be broken by this very system once the NHC calls it. This is unbelievable.

They are just extremely exausted by this, but there is more coming. . .
NHC: This is too much.

2005's record has officially fallen. Theta is being used for the very first time. What a year it has been.

Remember at least one person predicted something like 30-34 named storms in the 2020 pre-season prediction thread? At this rate they’re gonna be right...and we thought that was outlandish.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Is there any noteworthy record considering there being 2 tropical systems active at the same time November 10 or later?

The NHC keeps Theta at 50 kt for 4 straight days, so it looks like it’ll be a decent ACE-maker. Watch it become a hurricane lol.

I wouldn't even be surprised if it becomes a hurricane at this point.

From December 7 to 8, 1887, there was a hurricane in the central Atlantic and a tropical storm in the Caribbean.

Well 2005 did too with Epsilon.
If this next Caribbean storm begins as a operational TD, that will be the first ever time an Atlantic system was numbered in the 30’s!

Re: ATL: THETA - Subtropical Storm - Discussion
The HWRF has consistently shown Theta having a lopsided moisture field, with dry air in its SE quadrant, until Thursday when it finally develops a complete moisture pocket. That will be Theta’s best opportunity to do something strange, since it’ll likely be fully tropical and blocked off from dry air.

Theta is now almost a hurricane. The NHC did a special update to upgrade it to 60 kt and 989 mbar. They must’ve gotten an ASCAT pass or something to warrant this. Since Theta’s moisture bubble is expected to improve and it’s already up to 60 kt, Hurricane Theta is inevitable.
