It’s insane that the Cat 4+ landfalls on the US since 2017 have all been at different regions of the Gulf Coast. Every region is getting their turn…

My bet is that they were called off early because of safety, Ian is a dangerous Hurricane.

It looks like the next plane's going will be launched 12:00 PM EDT and will be getting in the storm at 1:00 PM EDT, is that correct?

Just like Jon Snow..."I know nothing" except what I know, and most of what I know is gathered by the fine people of the NHC

We've had many terrible storms the past several years, but imho, I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if in the end, Ian ends up as one of the most known and talked-about of these high profile hurricanes. The fact it is about to literally carve a swath of pain and destruction through a highly populated region of the the third most populous US state says it all. I guarantee you that this will also end up as a storm that many S2K users will vividly recall and make references to in future hurricane seasons.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

JeninOrlando wrote:Hi all. Longtime lurker. Went through Irma here in east Orlando, now ready for Ian. I have a sister in evac zone A in Port Charlotte. She was prepared to ride it out anyway. This morning her pond was already up by more than a foot. She packed up and went inland a bit to a friend in NorthPort. Pretty nervous about the next 36 hours here in Orange County.
I have an elderly disabled SIL in Port Charlotte Zone B. She has no choice no where to go and no way to get there if there was. She's been noted by the Sheriff's department and directed to write name, Birthdate and social security number on her arm with permanent marker. Fact.

Yes it’s odd for such a powerful hurricane. What’s the cause of that?

Titusville here, Space Coast. Squalls are coming in pretty regularly. I work from home for a local credit union, we were scheduled to close at 2, they just changed it to noon because "conditions are deteriorating quicker than we originally anticipated".

Keep the boots-on-the-ground reporting going on here.
Live reports of the water and wind are important for us here. The weather channel folks are holed up I’m sure in cozy hotel rooms above the surge. They give good coverage but nothing like what we have here with multiple posters directly or indirectly in the path of Ian.
Please note that the videos you will see of this disaster will in no way capture the intensity of the experience. It is almost beyond words to watch buildings seemingly explode when the Fists of God come bearing down.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.
Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Are those bays at risk of a higher storm surge due to the narrow space the water has?

Quite a moat around the eye. Wouldn’t surprise me if Ian is stronger. Fortunately it’s barely moving just offshore, maybe SWFL will catch a break and shear can interfere before landfall, wishful thinking I know.
