Cold building in source region again mid-month. Also, of interest for an extended winter into March/April...Strat Warm is working its way down and looks to be the real deal this time. March looks like a below normal temp month at this time

Re: Texas Winter 2022-2023
I haven’t gone up much, still stuck at 31.5.
Sleet still on ground here still under the ice.
I hear roads are fine now. I think I have .25 of ice which isn’t too bad for infrastructure. If we did not have mostly sleet to start it would have been like Austin.
I want a dumping of snow but wait a few weeks so kids can get yearbook spreads done. I got a lot of work done yesterday so a nice blessing.

Orangeblood, hopefully we can get the SSW to come to fruition before it's too late to make a difference for us. We got a little ice and sleet in my location, but not as much as i was hoping for

And I'm back down to 31F with frozen stuff falling. It's not over yet.

This could also factor into a crazier storm season from March to June.

Re: Texas Winter 2022-2023
Lots of live oaks lost a limb or two in Central Texas. When the entirety of your surface area is covered in ice you are gonna be heavy. Of course, some species of trees that are used to cold weather have evolved to not have this issue. Such is life.
Hearing the “rain” fall from melting ice this morning was surreal. Bittersweet even. Hope everyone who lost power gets it back soon. The next few days some of us will be hearing a lot of chainsaws and branches getting tossed around.

Re: Texas Winter 2022-2023
been holding steady at 32 since 11am, not much melting going on. I need to make may way across the crunchy frozen backyard to retrieve more firewood. good times indeed
Update: I'm officially above freezing now, and rain is moving in. Won't take much to rid the trees of it's icy coating.

Re: Texas Winter 2022-2023
Unexpectedly lost power last night in my Smithson Valley area neighborhood (rural Comal County)...for 14 hours.
5300 homes without power due to damaged/down LCRA transmission line crossing near 281/46- apparently a tractor trailer hit a low hanging high voltage line on 281?
My provider is NBU (New Braunfels Utilities) but I guess they purchase power from LCRA lines and since no power on the high voltage lines NBU was unable to deliver hence the outage.

Finally hit 32.0. I was surprised it took this long. Models warmed things up too fast again.

Meso analysis shows light ZR (frz rain) or ZR sleet mix with the last batch if you're below freezing.

I can confirm that it is back to 32F here and FRZ Rain/Sleet mix. Trees are reglazing and you can hear the ice cracking as the branches move around. So much for being done with this stuff

Re: Texas Winter 2022-2023
A blistering 43F here in SW Houston. I don't know if I can withstand this heat much longer. The only ice in SE TX was in freezers, thankfully. This is one reason why summer is good - no ice storms.
