Pivotal does not have NAM outputting snow anywhere like TT shows. It confines the snow to NC and NE TX.

Already 40 IMBY in north Fort Worth, which is a degree above the high. That's concerning to me despite not a ton of sun.

Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
Regarding QPF amounts, models now have a much better consensus that this is a high precip event with anywhere from 3/4" to 1.5" liquid equivalent across those in the Winter Weather warning/advisory areas. That is pretty extreme for this time of year!!
Now that we have a much better idea on QPF amounts, it mainly comes down to what portion of that QPF is of the frozen variety and of what type ?? Obviously, a lot of pro mets, amateurs, Cotton Bowl travelers etc trying to figure out the answer to that question right now!!!

Honestly with temps and profiles like it forecasts, I could see it arguable either way and can see why sites are struggling with precip depictions.
This is the sounding for Dallas at 9pm tomorrow. Temp 33F, dew pt 32F, zig zagging across the 0C line all the way up to 700mb.

If this profile was shifted even a degree or two lower it would be all snow.

The fact that 24 hours from right now I could be looking at over a half a foot of snow on my front yard........

Forecast high here in the Bryan/College Station area was 45. We just managed to get to 40 under mostly cloudy skies. Heating for the day should be pretty much done at this point.

Northern DFW burbs school districts starting to announce closings for tomorrow. Frisco and Prosper ISDs both closed Thursday.

Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
Dallas ISD is closed Thursday and Friday. Weird since they will be above 32 for much of it.
My district, Eagle-Mtn Saginaw, just canceled for tomorrow. They did mention that the forecast is uncertain, but they decided to cancel to avoid the situation of sending kids home later in dangerous roads just in case.
I mean, if we get nothing now, at least I got a snow day anyway. Lol.

18z RGEM and using as example of a possible scenario. In a thunderstorm, could be heavy intense rain, or heavy intense burst of snow, or a smorgasbord.

Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
Been lurking around, sorry havent been able to be active at all for the last year it feels like.
Kept an eye on the storm and unfortunately looks like Austin will miss out. Trends today look decent for N TX, wit the latest ICON showing a decent precip shield Thu night. Im thinking 3-6" for the area, but melting soon after Friday. Hope yall enjoy it, and may the south half of the state cash later this month!!

I admit this afternoon's temps make me nervous. That all is fixed if we can get some heavy sleet tomorrow morning but we will see.
