You can also set your dishwasher and washing machine on a delay so they run in the middle of the night. I’ve also heard of people opening up their attic access (if it is inside your house) so the warm air goes up there. You will certainly see an increase in your electric/gas bill but better than a flooded house!

I mean people made it obviously because we are all here.
It must have been brutal.
And the crazy thing is you would not have Storm2k to prepare you for beforehand and get an idea of impact and duration. You just went with it.
We are an extremely weak society today compared to generations from long ago. Our good times were because of them.
I won’t say much more but most “men” today are extremely weak compared to men just 40 years ago, much less 100 plus.

Don't use my posts as forecast; I'm not a licensed meteorologist! I just endorse cold weather, alright?
All observations I note are for Temple, Texas unless otherwise stated.

The easier we make our lives with innovation and technology, the harder it is to go without. Nothing like a good ole cabin with a fire place where you only need to heat one space out in the middle of Canadian woods.
You’re talking my love language, haha.

The 12z ICON is still insisting the trough this weekend digs far enough west with a 1050smb high to send cold and break out snow Monday.

Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
I think that the 00z EC has come to its senses in not forecasting 5 days below freezing in Houston next week. It was even colder than the always too cold Canadian. 00Z EC ensembles are not as cold as the EC operational, with the EC-AIFS even warmer. 00Z EC has quite a different upper air pattern, being more progressive with the trof and not developing a west Gulf low to cause precip in the cold air. Works for me. However, it's still 7-10 days out so expect further model changes.
Here is the plot for next week from the 00Z models for Houston. Similar to last week's temps, if not quite as cold and wet.

How could we function without Internet connected washing machines, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and door locks? How many young people know how to use a can opener?

Just click the button to continue to the site. It's safe. You won't be converted to a warm-mongerer, probably... Once you tell you browser the site is okay, it won't put up the warning again.

Not to mention no Central Air, cars without A/C & ventilated seats, without, no water parks, etc.

Or a shack in the Louisiana Bayou where you would make due with well-ventilated clothes, curtains/blinds, hand-made fans and a bunch of Sweet Tea...

Starts probably just after midnight and leaves by mid-day, so a little snow day maybe. Some of it looks to frozen Precip further south judging by temps though

Even in 2025, Internet-connected appliances is very much of a novel concept and most folks don't have that.

Yeesh, if that’s the state of our young people, what does that say about the parenting from the older people?

Alright gang, this is a weather forum and not a "Well in my day ... and ... You Kids Get Off My Lawn" complaint forum.
Please let's return to discussing the weather and computer models and whether or not HockeyTx82 is going to have another chance to run a live video feed to show us a snowstorm at his house!

Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
Just caught up on 15-20 pages of the forum.
While on the subject of pipes and avoiding damage, one thing i did during '21 was shutting off my pool pump, opening the catch can, and draining the main tank. By doing this, I lowered the pressure in the pipes of the pool, so that when they froze, there was hardly any water in the pipes, allowing the water to freeze but didnt put any pressure on the pipes at all. I did this as the power went out on Tuesday. It was 13 degrees at the time. I went to a friends house, then out of town till Monday and I had zero issues at all for my pool. Something to think about.
